Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Will anyone not give their LO whole milk at one?

I'm not asking b/c I am going to do this so hold the flames. I am asking b/c my chiropractor, who has a 3 month old, told me he has no intention of giving his daughter whole milk at one b/c it is "pumped full of hormones." Thoughts on this?

  • We do not because cows milk (IMO) is only for baby cows.

But I hope your Dr is aware they do make organic and hormone free cows milk, on the shelf...right next to the regular milk.

  • i've heard that, but we live on a farm and will be giving DD milk from dairy cows without growth hormones. FWIW, lots of brands of milk state they do not use growth hormones.

  • I probably will not.  The thought of drinking cow's milk really grosses me out.  I have no problem cooking with it or using it in cereal (I don't drink my cereal milk so it's really just there for show), but I don't drink milk and I don't think I could ever bring myself to do it.  Given that, I don't think I could give it to P without gagging.  I will probably talk to the pedi to see what other alternative I can give.  Maybe soy?

  • Uhhh, there is organic milk which has no hormones so I'm not sure what your chiro is talking about. ?I haven't decided if we'll do whole or 2%. ?Forgot to ask the pedi today, but we'll discuss at his 12 month check.

  • I probably won't.. maybe 18 months?

    W (02/2009), N (08/2012), and C (04/2014)
  • We probably wont start milk till 1.5yrs old. I'm thinking about self weaning, so we wont really add in cows milk for a while. Even then, it will probably be organic, hormone free cows milk.

  • Rice milk with added vitamins and protein powder. (C is allergic to soy)...I do give them foods made with cows milk because the protein is processed differently.
  • I won't because I still plan to be breastfeeding.  Once we do give milk, it will definitely be the hormone free kind (which is what I drink now).
  • I just received a flyer/check in the mail regarding Enfagrow....from the makers of Enfamil.Made for toddlers (12+months) and supposed to be WAAY better than cow's milk.Check it out.
  • No, DD is allergic to dairy and soy.  I'll continue to nurse and FF (hypoallergenic) through the winter, introducing rice and oat milk at some point.  Hopefully, she'll grow out of it and be able to have organic cow's milk eventually.
  • I will probably give him some, but I will buy him the hormone free organic milk. It will probably be limited b/c i hope to keep nursing in the evenings and mornings.
