this weekend our family is going to my IL's for a few days. its a little over 2 hours away. i was talking with my mother last night & she said that i just HAD to ride in the backseat with truett the whole way there. her reasoning was if he starts to choke or stops breathing or something. i can see her concern, but honestly i rode home with him from the hospital and that's been it. he falls asleep as soon as he's in his carseat so i really dont see a need to ride with him. we've traveled an hour away & he was fine without me, there & back. WWYD? ride or not?
Re: riding in the backseat with LO
Do you have one of those mirrors so you can see him?
I drove 3 hours alone with DS and he slept the whole way.

We took a 4.5 hour trip and I did not ride back there with my LO. If the logic is that you should do it because the baby may choke or stop breathing then shouldn't you ALWAYS be back there with them? I don't think a longer trip makes that any more likely to happen.
This is the best idea. What will they choke on back thier that they don't choke on when sleeping alone in thier cribs. Or do you watch him when he sleeps as well. Just my opinion.
Wow I wrote this before reading the posts of everyone who rides back there.
I guess I am odd because I have never ridden in the back seat with my LO. Not even on the way home from the hospital. I did not and do not want him to get use to having someone back there. Could create a problem when it is just the 2 of us in the car and he doesn't have anyone to entertain him. Plus he seems perfectly content and fine on his own.
this is what i came back at my mom with. & i completely agree with the opinions of *2007wife*. thanks for all the input everyone!! just wanted to get your opinion!
This. And also, an article in Canada was released while I was still pg saying that babies shouldn't spend more than 1.5 hours in a car seat without being woken up, or checked on....so riding in the back would be good IMHO. There have been a few cases where a baby has died because their head rolled forward and cut off the air....
