S/O Strangers touching babies....

Probably my very LEAST favorite thing about having a baby is when you go out in public and half the people you see feel the need to come up and talk to you about your baby.  Maybe it was fun to get the attention for LO the first couple of times, honestly I don't remember, but it gets old really fast.  Why do I need to tell every stranger how old she is and answer all kinds of questions about her?  We're never going to see this person again.  And that always leads said stranger to tell some incredibly unique story about some random baby they once knew.....again, I don't know you and I don't care.  I am not exactly a people person and I like to avoid random conversations with anyone.  Getting in and out of the grocery store with kids is hard enough without stopping to talk to every other customer in the store.

The worst was when we went Christmas grocery shopping at DD's 1st Christmas.  The store was PACKED.  She was 8 months old and wearing a Christmas shirt and a cute little santa hat.  I couldn't take 3 steps without someone new stopping us to chat.  We were in that damn store for almost 3 hours.  After the first hour I was ready to drape a blanket over her head and pretend like I didn't have a baby!!

She must have been a real cutie lol.  I know what you mean though.   Would you actually sport one of these this time?  Or would it be too much?

Hahahaha.  That's awesome!  I could also teach my out spoken 4 year old to tell strangers not to touch her baby sister or talk to her mommy.  We'll be the most unfriendly family ever!

  • I'm not kidding you, I'm *this close* to purchasing one of those signs for our stroller.  People don't realize how many random people want to kiss and touch your baby.  Its crazy!

::Loves:: That would certainly take people aback!

Mourning the loss of Amarine Stella, born at 21 weeks, 6 days.
We will always love you, our little angel.
  • A woman kissed my dog on the head at the $ store a few weeks ago.  That totally skeeved me out.  I will freak if strangers try to touch/kiss my baby
  • My older sister just had her third and she said that when she wears her baby in a wrap type thing, very few people try to touch the baby and few people ask about it, since it's mostly covered. I suppose you could try that if you are interested in baby wearing.

  • I am more worried about people breathing too close to the baby's face.  People tend to get in babies faces and that is so gross to me.  How to you tell someone holding your baby to keep their face away from your baby's face?  I am probably being weird lol.
  • Either DS is really unfortunate-looking (wait, who am I kidding he's always been adorable) or I am really mean-looking b/c I can't recall any strangers ever touching him when we were out in public.  I just can't fathom it happening - maybe because it's nothing I would ever do.

  • When DS still fit in his infant seat I'd cover his seat with a blanket, it really does keep people further back than having him exposed.
