Anyone pre-make formula

for the day? I am going to be stopping pumping in about 2 weeks so DD will be fed formula only. Do you make your bottles one at a time or do you mix a big batch for the day? I make her bottles one at a time now but she only takes 3 formula bottles a day. Just wondering which is easier?

Re: Anyone pre-make formula

  • I usually make all his bottles the night before if I'm using the liquid concentrate.  If I'm doing powder, I do it as I need them.

  • I used to premake it with a formula pitcher, to reduce the air bubbles...but then I had to warm it up and that took a lot longer than just making it as he was hungry.

Now what I do is pre-fill all of his bottles for the day with water so that it's room temperature, then I just add the scoops of formula and shake when it's time to eat.  Takes like 5 seconds.

  • I make 2 bottles worth at one time. I make 8 or 10 oz in a bottle, shake it up, then pour half into another bottle to feed right then.

For now, though, she's only getting two bottle back to back (currently weaning).

  • I switch back and forth.  I used to mix bottles in advance, but DS started eating different amounts at every feeding so there was a lot of waste.  Now I mix up a days worth in a container (tupperware) and keep it in the refrigerator, so I can pour it in a bottle 2 ounces at a time.  I also put the bottles together so they are ready to be poured into to save time.

  • I make about 4 bottles at once...that way they're nice and cold, and ready to go.  I feed him 2 bottles at home each day now...one in the morning, and one right before bed..since he stays with grandpa all day.

  • I premake 4 bottles at a time so they have time to settle.  Otherwise the bubbles bother her.
  • There are times when I do mix it in the morning in a Dr. Brown's pitcher and just pour it into each bottle.  At night we use RTF.  When we go out I use the premeausred scoops and water.  When DD goes to school in a few weeks I will be making them the night before so DH can just put them in the fridge at school for her.

I haven't really determined if premaking it is easier since DD likes her bottles at room temp. so when I take it out of the fridge I have to warm it up but when I am home alone and only have one hand free I like knowing I can use one hand to warm her bottle rather than two hands to scoop and shake.

    Good luck!

This is what we do, works great!
