Re: Baby constipation

  • I don't really know and even though I bet the answer is actually no, I have tried it and I "feel" like it helped; ) it was probably just a coincidence but luckily, I needed the fiber anyway so it didn't hurt to give it a shot... Good luck!

  • The thermometer tricks almost always worked for my girls.  Got it all moving.  I hope they are feeling better soon.

  • Putting the rectal thermometer in and out a few times can stimulate them to go.  I would do it a few times and then bicycle their legs.  Water worked too but I think your babies are too young/small for water just yet.

  • a couple of mine had it when they first came home and I took a q-tip and put vaseline on the tip of it to wet/mat it down and put that i their bum and twirled it around a bit and boom... within a few minutes.. no more constipation. But watch out!
  • babbs...make sure you are not confusing your girls gruntin and learning trying to poop with actual constipation..its common for new mommies to think theire babies are constipated ...if their poop is hard and solid it is indeed constipation otherwise they just need help learning to poop..excercise their legs and rub their tummies..Good luck!
  • oh another thing you can try is the mylicon gas drops ..they helped DD with gas and sometimes I swear they made her poop...if her poop is solid than pp is the way to go
  • That's very common for preemies because of the calorie additive you have to give them.  Glycerin suppositories are extremely safe to use.  Usually on little ones, you can slice the suppository into about 1/3 and it will do the trick.  Be careful with rectal thermometers or any other foreign objects in their rectum... it can cause damage.   My daughter was a 24 weeker... I know all about constipation!  :-)  Goodluck!

  • DS is also a preemie and we did 1 T white grape juice w/ an oz. of water but of course I'd check w/ your dr, GL!
