Last night after DS's 3:30am feeding, I laid him back in his crib and he wasn't knocked out like he usually is. He laid there and fussed for about 15-20 mins and finally fell back asleep on his own. This was the first time he has fallen asleep on his own in his crib (we just moved him in there 2 weeks ago). Usually he will start to cry after a couple minutes if he is not fully asleep when I lay him in there. Should I continue to try the drowsy, but awake? Does it take a little while before it will consistently work?

Re: Drowsy, but awake...how long until consistently successful?
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
Once I started I never went back. Now I can put him down almost wide awake (aka right out of the carseat when we get home) and lay him down. He fusses, but not crying persay, for about 20 min and then goes to sleep.
I do treat myself sometimes and rock him to sleep. I cherish those moments now.
IMO, some babies can learn drowsy but awake right away and others just aren't made for it. Don't stress if your baby doesn't take to it easily. He is still SOOO young. Our pedi said when they are that young to do "whatever it takes" to get him to sleep. If that means, rocking or bouncing, than that is ok.
We still rock our 6 month old to sleep and I don't mind so much. We`ll probably sleep train him eventually, but for now, it works for us.
