Babies: 9 - 12 Months

My baby needs an x-ray

I took her to the doc for some minor concerns I've been having. One was that when she is standing she favors her right leg. She will often move the right foot around while the left leg holds the weight. Addie was breech, and her hip ultra sound was normal when she was 1 month old. But, the doc wants an x-ray to check for developmental dysplasia of the hip because she said it can not show up until babies are a couple months old.

I hate giving my 7 month old an x-ray to begin with. Hopefully it will come out as nothing and she just likes moving her right leg around!

I'm nervous for her. Sad

  • Awww, poor Addie.  Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be fine.  Even if there is something, they have all sorts of easy treatments for hip dysplasia these days.  A friend had a baby who had to wear this sling thing for 6 months after birth, but at 18 months, her DD is perfect and running around all the time.

    Good luck!

  • awww, poor baby. ?i hope everything is okay.
  • Aww I am so sorry. Owen has had a head X-ray as well as a CT Scan. They get pretty annoyed about having to stay still, but it is not bad.
  • Aww, poor thing! I hope everything turns out okay. Keep us posted.

  • Awww sweetie!!  I am sure everything will work out.  Its good they are doing these tests and you were aware of what's going on .  They can find whatever, if anything is bothering her and make a plan to get it taken care of!  She'll be fine thru the xrays.  Lil has had 3 to check her lungs for fluid and abnormalities from birth.  She doesn't care for them but the xray techs do a great job of keeping the babies comfy.  Keep us posted!!

  • Thanks all! I started to read up on it and just closed out of the website. I just can't imagine putting a 7 month old in a sling or some say after 6 months surgery is needed! I'm sure it's fine...I'm sure it's fine...I'm sure it's fine ::clicking heels together::
  • I'm sorry, we're dealing with something similar with one of ds's shoulders, we're holding off till 9 mo. to see if we have to do an xray or if he really just likes holding his arm in a funny position
  • I'm an x-ray tech, so if you've got any questions feel free to ask!  I don't know anything about the hip dysplasia, but I can help with the x-ray part!
