I know this is a longshot. But I am dying doing dishes by hand! I never had a dishwasher in my life until we bought our house 5 years ago and the appliances were brand new. Well, I have been putting egg shells in my garbage disposal for years without indcident until the other day. The clog was really bad. I tried to plunge it and then poured some Liquid Plumber in to no avail. DH ended up removing the pipe and finding a 6 inch long blockage of egg shells and celery strings (what CAN you put in those things???). When he put the pipe back on and turned the water on the dishwasher won't work! It heats up and makes noise but no water sprays out. The Liquid Plumber says it is safe for disposals and dishwashers. With DH being layed off we really can't afford a repair bill or a new appliance. This washing dishes by hand sucks! Any ideas?
Re: Anyone good at diagnosing broken dishwashers?
How old is your disposal? My mom's is a few years old and you can put rib bones down it! Egg shells? Yours gets tripped up with egg shells? That's crazy.
DH is currently watching an enticing episode of Sons of Anarchy or else I would ask him. When it gets done, I'll ask him. If he has any ideas, I'll repost a comment.?
My disposal is 5 years old and was new when we bought the house. It doesn't seem like the disposal can't handle the egg shells, the were clogged in the pipe further down. I googled it and apparently this is common knowledge. oops
Awesome. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Thank your DH for me. I will give it a look.
Oh the water shut off valve. It is on and still no water.
