Home Day Care in Evergreen Park area

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I have really been thinking about starting an at home day care, after I give birth. I amnottoo sure though if this would work, any ideas? I live in the Evergreen Park area, and I am college educated, I am thinking about giving up my career so I can spend more time with my baby, and be able to provide an income to our household. Is this a service anyone might be interested in?  Any ideas or insight?

Re: Home Day Care in Evergreen Park area

  • I think a home daycare would be good to start.  I'm currently looking for full-time daycare for my baby after I go back to work full-time.  It is pretty difficult to find someone that will take infants.  One word of advice though: a lot of people want an in-home daycare that is licensed by the state.  Also, people generally look for someone with a background in education, or someone that is willing to learn a curriculum to teach the children as they grow.  In the meantime, you could put an add on Craigs list...i've seen a lot of those up.

BTW: you and I are at similar points in our pregnancy....are you going to look for a mom's group to join in the area?  There is one in Oak lawn, but it is closed to new members.  I'm thinking of starting my own after the baby is born.  If you are interested, keep an eye out on Meetup.com, or maybe we can keep in touch on the boards until the babies are born.

  • You do have to deal with a lot when you take in other people's kids.  Make sure you are ok with putting your baby down to tend to another child's needs.  I am in the area and I take my daughter to a home day care setting so if you need pointers or have questions about what other moms are doing feel free to ask, or if you need to see if you could handle a crazy toddler and your baby I have one of those- :-)   you can email me at blair_malloy@yahoo.com
