baby not moving at Big Ultrasound

I just had my big ultrasound yesterday, the tech said everything looks good (there not allowed to tell you anything in Canada) but the baby wasn't moving. I asked him about it and said don't worry it will start.  I did see the heart beat, but i cant help feeling disappointed I didn't see the LOL moving around.  Do you think the baby was just sleeping?

Re: baby not moving at Big Ultrasound

  • If you saw the heart beat I would not worry about it.

  • Probably.  Not that it helps now, but did you drink anything high in sugar, or moderately caffinated before the u/s?  I drank like a quarter gallon of arange juice before mine to make sure LO would be moving around.
  • Our baby wasn't moving at the NT scan.  I chalked it up to him being sleepy.

  • We had ours a couple weeks ago and the baby would not budge!  She got me in all sorts of crazy positions and tried for 45 minutes poking and proding to get baby to move. Baby was obviously sleeping and would not be disturbed. All we could see was the back of the head and spinal cord.  She didn't really tell me anything but I could tell she was really frustrated. Low and behold I went into see my OB for my 20week today check-up and there was another request for ultrasound! So I get to go again, maybe baby will be less stubborn.

I was super disapointed last time since there was no 'cute' pictures of the LO to be had, but now I'm excited since I get a second ultrasound out of it :)

Maybe you'll get a second one after you hear the results from your OB.

  • My little girl was sleeping during our ultrasound. I drank mango-pineapple juice and ate fruit snacks before my appointment, but it didn't seem to wake her up at all. She did move a little when she woke up (riiight at the end), she yawned and stretched her arms..but like I said, that was at the very end. If our appointment had been shorter I wouldn't have seen her move at all.
  • Ours was thrashing around through about half of it, then she went to sleep in fetal position in the corner.  So, the tech had trouble getting  a complete shot of her spine.  She tried kneading my stomach a little and that didn't work.  So, she told me to walk 5 laps around the office to see if the baby would wake up or move.  I walked around and it didn't wake her up, but she did roll over, so they were able to get the picture.
  • Our LO was sleeping during ours and the tech used what I lovingly called the baby taser.  Basically it just vibrated my stomach and annoyed LO into waking up.  She got her measurements and we got to see the baby waving and kicking and turning over.

The baby taser. Oh my gosh that cracked me up!

  • They would tell you if something was wrong, try not to worry.

  • Thank you guys, I feel better. I didn't have anything sweet prior. Hopefully the Dr. calls soon!  I hate waiting for results.

  • My baby did the same thing at the 20 week sonogram. I was so scared. I wanted to see the baby moving around. Everything is fine. The tech took the sonogram probe and shook my stomach with it. The baby was jilted and moved for a few seconds until he got comfortable again and went back to sleep....:)

  • My baby didn't move during our big u/s. She waved an arm or moved a leg a little after much prodding and poking by the u/s tech but she was comfy in her position and wasn't about to move for any reason.

She moves all the time but sometimes needs a little rest- that just happend to be one of those times. Everything was fine and everything is fine with your LO.

  • our little guy barely moved at all. he just moved his arms and his head once, the tech said totally normal.
