I failed the Prepared Mommy Test of the Century

Daycare was having a parent teacher night which I pretty much forgot about till today at work.  It was from 6-7.  We usually pickup at 5-5:30 and eat dinner around 6.  So the only way this was going to work is if we fed DS before the meeting.  DH and I picked him up and to save time we went to a nearby Chili's.  As I was getting out of the car I realized that I had no diapers, no diaper bag, etc..  But I thought, we will only be here for an hour and then we are back to daycare where they all of that stuff.  Midway into dinner, DS starts to push and hard.  Great.  But he would survive for another 30 minutes, right?  We have never had a OMG emergency before...

Well we see that we are running a little late and ask the waitress for the check.  I grab DS out of the high chair and DH makes a comment about the smell.  Then he notices some wetness on his pants.  I look down and his pants are bulging on one side.  I immediately go to the car where I have the following supplies - CVS brand handy wipes, papertowels, and one swim diaper.  So I get him cleaned up and we drive the 1/2 mile to daycare where we enter late in front of all of the other parents.  DS at this point is in a good shirt (bc it was picture day), a swim diaper and nothing else, no shoes, no socks.

Yes, mother of the year.

  • Sorry, but I had to laugh. :) We ran out of diapers when we were at the ILs last Sunday, and I had to put dd in a swim diaper on the two hour drive home. At least you were at your dc's daycare, and not something more formal. I'm sure the other parents understood. :)

  • It happens to the best of us.  At least you had a swim diaper.  I always try and keep a package of wipes ind a few extra diapers tucked behind the drivers seat for those emergencies.  It has come in hand for DH who never thinks of grabbing a diaper and wipes when leaving the house.
  • At least you had the swim diaper. I try to keep spares in the car, but one time I was with the in-laws and we had already used our "emergency diapers," so off to Target we went.  I figure, as long as you have the baby, you're good to go Big Smile

  • I hear ya!  Anyone that hasn't been there will be at some point.  My son entered the grocery store one time in a cute little outfit.  I check out with a freshly opened bag of diapers and wipes and my son is sitting in just a diaper in the cart.  Klassy!
