I recently got a dress to wear to a wedding, and I want to know if it'll double for a semi-formal event I'm going to.

It's the yearly "Barrister's Ball" through my DH's lawschool. Men wear suits and women usually wear short cocktail style dresses.

Here it is:

Should I just buck up and buy a new fancier dress? My DH says its fine, but he also is convinced he only needs one reversible black/brown belt to get through in life.

I'd get a fancier dress. That one is pretty casual.

Anything called a "Ball" would probably require something fancier.

I'd get something a little fancier. The one you posted looks like something you'd see at the Lilith Fair, not a semi-formal event or wedding.

Barrister's Ball at my school is a little more formal but at this point I will wear anything I can fit into so you could try to dress it up with jewelry and heels.
