We've met a wonderful SAHM who wants to watch Nate and I've got her list of references, so I'm going to give them a call this evening. I'm also trying to make sure that we've covered everything that needs to be covered before we make a final decision.
What sort of questions did you ask when you checked the references of your nanny, babysitter, or in home provider? Was there anything you forgot to ask that you wished you had asked?
Any questions that you wished you had asked your nanny or care giver before they started?
Re: Nanny/In-home provider references ?
Some questions I asked:
How often did they call in sick?
Is there a back up person in case of any emergency, or do I have to come pick up my child if your child needs to be rushed to the ER (example).
Who else has access to the house, who will be there during daycare hours, do they have a background check on file?
Also remember that if she is watching 2 or more children she needs to be licensed with the state in order to do so.
If your child is home sick, do you close the daycare?
I can't think of anymore but those were my top ones.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're looking to know what questions to ask her references, correct? If so, I would ask how well she interacted with their children, what activities did she do with them, was she a proactive or just sat on the couch while they played? Did she call in sick frequently/need to leave work early? Do they still plan to use this person for night time babysitting (a sign that they still are happy with her)? Did she drive their kids anywhere/any problems with that (if you're allowing the SAHM to drive Nate to activities)? Did they have any personality conflicts or other issues that came up? Did she follow their instructions well? Did she communicate how their children were doing during the day?
Good luck!
