One of my Drs mentioned 38 weeks while the other said between 38-39. I was thinking of putting it off as far as I could to give the boys time to decide when they were ready!...but then I have been erading that it's better to make it to your schedule c-section vs getting to the hospital and needing a c-section because you're in labor.
Thoughts?
Re: When to schedule c-section?
my doc scheduled me at 38w1d. Most docs have you go at 38w... a few are now going to 39. I was 100% fine with giong at 38w - my boys were very healthy, one more week would have just made them bigger and me more miserable.
chances are you will go before then anyway - the avg twin pg is 35-36w... but 38+ is certainly doable.
Thanks! DH is thinking we should schedule it for 39+weeks...but of course, easy for him to day, he's not the one carrying the boys right?
)
I think 38 weeks is a good time frame. I wish I didn't have to choose and they would come when they are ready and fully baked...but I guess that may not happen and I should just get used to the idea!...
Thank you everyone!
Well, I guess I should have explained....I don't actually hope for a c-section...but Baby A is breech and the Drs think he won't turn because there isn't enough space...so that's why they want to schedule the c-section. I still have hope that he will turn though
Sounds like 38 weeks is pretty standard. Thanks again everyone
THIS. My peri/MFM said 37 weeks is ideal for twins. Before that and they risk NICU time for not being ready, after that the placenta starts to fail and they are better off out than in. You should Google a bit about this and do your research and bring it to your doc.
I had a scheduled induction at 38w5d, delivered the next day by c-section. (My induction failed). While yes, there is the risk of the placenta starting to break down the later you go, they are (or should be) monitoring it during your regular ultrasounds. I know that they were specifically checking mine because the tech and the doctor made a point of reviewing it together. I safely carried to that point and the babies were fine. I would talk over that point with your OB if it would help make your decision.
Even if you go into labor on your own and A is still breech, they can move pretty quick in getting set up for surgery. Mine wasn't planned and was done at 5:30 am and they had a full team in place in under 30 minutes, all while four other patients were actively pushing. Good luck!
My OB and perinatologist both said that the idea time for a twin delivery was between 38 and 39 weeks. I had my scheduled csection with my twins at 38 weeks 4 days.
Thank you everyone
