Annoyed.. anyone use make-up foundation primer?

I just got a sample of some b/c I've been wanting to try something new with my make up.  It's supposed to make skin smoother (which I need now b/c of lovely preg-breakouts) and make up last longer.  I haven't used it yet, but now I'm a little concerned about the ingredients.  I don't know what they are, and when I google them, it's not much help.  I'm afraid it might be vitamin a or something.  guess I will have to take it to the doc with me tomorrow

  • I haven't used one while pregnant but I have used it before. I hated it. I was really disappointed with the results and it was expensive! I hope you have better luck!

Yikes.  That's why I got a sample though, I have seen mixed reviews.  seems people either love it or hate it.

  • I use Smashbox Photo Finish primer and LOVE it. I have used it for about 2 years now and have never had issues with it.

I also tried Philosophy The Present because I had heard such great things about it and I absolutely hated it. Made my makeup go on weird and left lines.

really?  that's what I got, Smashbox.  so it's ok to use now that you are pregnant?

  • I don't always use it, but I have the Prime Time by Bare Escentuals / Bare Minerals.  It seems to work allright.
  • I'm assuming so! There is no salicylic acid or Retin-A's in it and all the other ingredients are pretty harmless. I've had no issues.
  • thanks so much everyone
  • I use Laura Mercier foundation primer everyday.  It's freakin' fantastic, and have no issues with the ingredients.  I can't even wear makeup without it anymore.

  • hey if you are prone to breakouts you should 4sure use a primer! the primer covers the face before the makeup filling in all pores and then the makeup lays atop the primer. one purpose for it is to keep the mineral oil from the makeup from clogging your pores which ....causes breakouts! GL try it for a couple of weeks you should see a huge difference. look for an oil free one! avon has a good one...so does sephora brand

  • Most primers are made from simethicone or dimethicone, which is fine. No acids or retin A's like pp said.

For a good cheap primer, I know a lot of people (myself included) who like Monistat Chafing Gel. It's not the yeast infection stuff, it's totally different...and it contains either simethicone or dimethicone (forget which one) just like the more expensive primers.

  • I have the Bare Minerals one and it made my skin break out *really* bad pre-preg.

Diddo on the Smashbox. AMAZING! I recommend this product all the time! So well worth the cost and the tube lasts sooooo long.
