Unusual Favors

My friends and I want to have unusual but very useful favors.  We were thinking of car air fresheners in the shape of a pacifier that say my and DH's name.  Has anyone seen these?

And, what is the most unusual, but useful favor, you've ever seen?

Re: Unusual Favors

  • Why would I hang an air freshner in my car that is shaped like a pacifier with someone else's name?  Sorry, it would be thrown away.

    This.

The only 2 favors I have ever had any use for were candles and candy/cookies = something edible. Everything else gets thrown in a draw until spring cleaning.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I would not like the air freshner although would probably use it.  I try to make use of all the favors I get (candles, soaps, etc).  Sometimes if they are especially nice and I don't use them I'll throw them in another gift for someone (regift?).  It's better than throwing them out.  Food favors are my favorites.  You could also give scratch off lottery tickets.
  • Car air fresheners make me ill.  I'd go with something that gets used up like m&ms, candles, lotions, lottery tickets, etc.  You don't want people to say "what's the deal with _____? I don't get it."

I can't handle the smell of car air fresheners and can't ride in a car that has one. If I went to a shower with a huge basket full of them I would probably get sick.

Give something edible, it's the only thing everyone will always enjoy.
  • I have to agree.  I'm not a big fan of car airfreshners in general.  Candy or some sort of sweet treat would be my pick. Good luck
  • I would probably nix that idea.  I second the edible favor.  Instead of the air freshner, get cookies shaped at pacifiers with your names on it.  We are doing white chocolate pretzels in a bag tied with green or yellow ribbon.
  • I think "unique" sounds like a total waste of money.

This sounds like a great idea. I'm not sure if I'm having favors at my girls only shower, but we will play a couple of game and the prizes are Yankee Candles.

In general, I think any favor personalized with the guest of honor's name is a bad idea. Why would other people (save for your parents or grandparents) want something with your name on it?

  • My cousin found a favor that was a sweet bread (similar to zucchini or pumpkin bread) made out of baby food squash.  She was thinking about getting each guest a small jar of baby food squash, covering the lid with a piece of fabric and maybe raffia or a bow, and attaching the recipe.  She also considered serving it at the shower so they could taste it.  My shower is in the Fall.
