LO sleeping question for everyone

LO doesn't sleep well at night and during the day. she moves a lot, flares her arms everywhere and wake up. she hated swaddle so i stop wrapping her at two to three weeks old. last night i decided to swaddle her again cause i was feeling so bad she wasn't sleeping soundly. she's now 5th weeks old.

my question for you is, when you LO is sleeping 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... do you unswaddle LO to change his/her diaper and take the chance LO will wake up for his/her sleep? if yes, how many hours does your LO sleep?

for mommy with STTN baby(ies), do you change the diaper? please include the age of your STTN baby.

thanks in advance!

Re: LO sleeping question for everyone

  • No I have never changed DS' diaper since he started STTN at 9wks old....he is now 4mo's old and I still don't change his diaper at night.

  • My baby will not sleep unless he is swaddled. If the swaddle isn't good and he busts out, he wakes up almost instantly. So anyway, we swaddle and there is no end in sight to that. I only change his diaper during the night if he is fully awake already. Usually he sleeps 5-6 hours straight, but if he wakes up after 3-4 and wants to eat, I only change him if he's still wide awake after I feed him. Otherwise, I figure if he's happy enough to go back to sleep I am happy to go back to sleep too! We have not had any diaper rash issues.

  • When we were still swaddling...almost to 3 months.....I would unswaddle to change her during the night.

Now that she is STTN I don't change her.  I put her in a size bigger diaper to handle the "extra" since they don't make nighttime diapers in the small sizes.  We have very few problems but I have always said I am very lucky.

  • LO started sttn 5 nights ago (woot!), and no, I do not change his diaper during the night.
  • We wait until he wakes up, but DS only sleeps 5 hours.

  • DS gets up usually once around 2:00am to eat and no I don't change his diaper. This way he pretty much dreamfeeds and never opens his eyes. It makes it soooo much easier to get him back to sleep. I would never wake a sleeping baby to change a wet diaper, dirty is another story because that grosses me out.
  • OMG, all this time I thought I had to change DD's diaper at every single feeding! I just thought that was standard protocol. This makes life so much easier because for at least one feeding she falls asleep during it. If I change her either before or after it wakes her completely up.

I may have a decent night sleep tonight. Thanks for the info!
