tell me about your hospital bedrest

Any tips to make the time go faster? Be more comfortable? Ease the anxiety? How long were you on it? Please share your experiences with me! It's not terrible but I know I have a long road ahead of me! Thanks! Big Smile

  • I found it easier as time went on. I think the longer you're stuck in bed the moer you just accept that as the norm. If there are any projects you can do for the nursery you could do those. Take up knitting or the like. Read, watch movies, nap and try not to go crazy.

    Good luck!

  • my best advice is a schedule.  up early, wash up, breakfast, chat with doc, reading, lunch, internet, testing, visitors, dinner, tv, reading, bedtime.  I was in a week, out a week, then in almost two before delivery at 24.5.  I also got a calendar and marked off every day and week and annotated for various milestones (24, viability, etc.) obviously I didn't make it that far, but it was nice to map out the future.
  • I went in at 25 weeks and stayed until the triplets came at 31 weeks. I had a tv and dvd player, so I watched a lot of movies and some series shows...watched all the Roswells LOL. DH brought in a playstation so we both could play games. I had mags and books to read, and also had my laptop....thank goodness! I was allowed to take baths in my rooms jacuzzi tub, and go for short wheel chair rides once things were under control. I had lots of friends and family visit. DH even brought our dogs and we had a little picnic with them outside a couple times. If I was better at scrapbooking that would have been a great thing to help pass the time. Good luck and hang in there!

  • I would have lost it without my computer, my husband bringing me real food and ambien.  They had wireless throughout the hospital which was huge.  I made friends with some of the nurses too.  I agree with pp about find a hobby.  I crochet so that helped a lot.
  • I spent about 2.5 months on hospital bedrest.  It got easier once I got a routine down.  I had a laptop, tv with dvd, and some crafts to do for the nursery.  I was really uncomfortable sitting up in bed so I didn't do too many crafts.  As pathetic as it was I had a schedule for what tv shows I'd watch at certain times.  I'd talk to DH and my family off and on all day.  I always had visitors at night which made a huge difference.  I looked forward to showering the most.  My family bought really nice washcloths/towels and soaps for me.

I totally recommend starting a blog if you haven't.  I wish I would have done it.

  • I was on strict bedrest where I couldn't get up at all (had to stay flat, too) except for once a day to poo (wohoo, lol) and even that was just using the bedside commode! I read books, watched tv, got on the internet, and napped pretty much. DH stayed with me every night and weekends thank God or I would have gone insane. It is really, really hard and I was lonely, depressed and homesick but I wish I could have done it longer if it meant keeping those babies in longer! Oh I also felt much better when I cleaned up a bit. Like every morning I would brush my hair (so hard laying down!!), brush my teeth, clean my face with face cleaning towelettes, and also wipe down with those thick body wipes that the hospital gave me. Just keep thinking that it is for the babies!! It will alll be worth it!
