  I believe it is "doctor of osteopathy."  DO's have regular medical training, but then also training in some more holistic treatments as well.

  I asked this last time I was the dr.s office.  DO means they are a dr of osteopathic medicine and MD means they went to "regular" medical school.  that's what they told me anyway!

  what the other ladies said. They and MDs are the only ones allowed by the gov to practice medicine.

  My husband is in Osteopathic Medical school right now.  We get this question all of the time!  These are my husband's exact words: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is the use of traditional medicine and a total body system view blended with evidence based medicine.  It is the belief that the structure and function of a body are closely related. 

  They are taught that over-medicating someone sometimes does more harm than good.
