2nd Trimester

cold and flu season-vent

This never seemed to bother me before, but now that I am pregnant and apparently have a weak immune system, it really bothers me that people are coming into work and are visably sick!  I was off yesterday, but apparently my boss didn't come in b/c she was sick.  Well, today she is here, and she sounds horrible.  Then I had a training to go to this morning and the lady who sat in the seat next to me started talking about how she is sick but doesn't think it's swine flu.  Really, I don't care what it is!  But, please, do not come around my to spead your germs.

Like I said, it never bothered me before, and I did it myself, came to work when I was sick, I mean, why would I want to waste my sick time.  But now, I will remember when I am no longer pregnant, that if I am sick, then I am staying home to not only get better faster, but to not spread my germs to my coworks!

Sorry about the vent!

  • I'm exactly the same as you! Didn't bother me before... but yesterday I was in a very small meeting room and one of my coworkers was coughing and not covering his mouth at all! Grossed me right out. Of course, most people think they're "too important" to take some time off when they're sick. But I wish they would just rest and get better at home!
  • Amen, sister.  On the flip side, I can't tell you how HARD it was to take a second sick day today.  I'm still very yucky with a cough, sneeze and runny nose - but I could push through at the office.  HOWEVER!  I know I'd be spreading this virus around if I went in, and I'm just not down with that.

  • I disagree. didn't bother me before, doesn't bother me now.  People come to work sick, it's a fact of life. people with compromised immune systems (pregnant, etc.) just have to be extra careful.

I bet that most people who are pregnant and say they never will come in when sick won't actually follow through.  If you have a young child you're probably even less likely to call in when you're sick because you'll want to use your sick time when your child is sick.

  • Yeah I'm just hoping that people don't go in to DH's work while sick.  Although I attended a wake last night and it seemed like everyone there was sick so I'm a little scared now.. I hope I didn't catch anything!
  • I'm kind of a nerd but I keep that antibacterial spray/gel & travel spray of lysol in my drawer, and I know where my work keeps the wipes and will occasionally wipe down things like the printer and copier I use. See Nerd Smile

  • I work in an ER so I get adults as well as kids coughing, sneezing, even throwing up on me. I was in the Pedi ER a lot a few weeks ago and ended up with a cold I am still fighting. Just remember to wash your hands frequently. People get sick and some think that a trip to the ER for the flu or a cold (I'm talking young healthy people) will cure them. It's annoying.

  • I work in the ER too...How bout when people dont cover their mouth when hacking their heads off?  Gotta love it!  ( I always remind them to cover their cough though but then they look at me like I am the crazy one)
