My pet peeve is when people misuse good and well. I also cannot stand when someone says "I could care less". The phrase is "I couldn't care less". Saying "I could care less... " implies, if not dictates, that there must first be a degree of care.
I am from Tennessee - I am sure there are alot of words/phrases that we say here that would irritate you
I don't think location has anything to do with it since I hear these mistakes pretty much everywhere... English isn't even my first language and its so iritating to hear people who speak with such a lazy tongue.
I know. I know! I KNOW! Some of the people with the worst grammar were people I worked at day care with. I am now of mindset that early childhood education curriculum should include English classes. You're teaching children!
When people say, or worse, write "prolly" instead of probably. I had never seen or heard "prolly" until this board and irks the ever living heck out of me.
I live in the South, so grammar & pronunciation errors are a daily frustration for me. Of course, I grew up in Pittsburgh, & Pittsburghese isn't exactly a perfect dialect either. As much as I hate to play into stereotypes, poor speaking skills are really an issue here in the Southeast.

hahhaaaa. My sister used to say "toe-let" instead of "toy-let" for toilet.
I was watching bridezillas the other day and all the trashy brides said "ax" instead of "ask". What the hell is up with that?
It also makes my skin crawl when people say stuff like "I don't do that no more" or "I don't talk to nobody about that stuff". Screams uneducated to me.
There are more, I just can't think of them right now.

I have a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Ed and needed several English classes to graduate. However, working at a daycare does not always require a degree.
To the OP, "mischievous" is often said incorrectly. People say mis-cheev-ious, but it's "mis-chuh-vis". I hope that made sense!
Re: NBR: words people say incorrectly
Mine is spelling rather than pronunciation
loose when they mean lose
I don't know why, but that happens all the time!!
