Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Uh, did you guys miss the fact that....

One of your posters is talking about how she jury rigged a bike trailer with ZIP TIES and puts her baby in it? See the bike post below. Honestly, it's your kid but working for social services and seeing tons of referrals for idiotic things parents do I'd say this is an accident waiting to happen.

  • Yes I saw that!

And yes, it is an accident waiting to happen. If it says 18 mos it says it for a reason.

Yep, and changing it up with plywood and zip ties is NOT making it safer.I cannot stress how stupid this is!

  • WTF?

I miss so much not coming here as much anymore.

  • I sure did and I'm proud of it!  I think it's stupid how paranoid people are.  I understand the desire one has for being safe and of course never putting their child's life in danger but some people just need to relax.  Think about all of the crazy stuff our parents and grandparents did - we all survived didn't we?

Oh, and do you want to know what else I do with her that you probably think is crazy??  I took her on a pontoon boat - more than once!  I let my dog kiss her feet!  We've taken her camping and have had her sleep in a tent!  She's sat by a campfire!  We've taken her to the public pool!

Flame all you want... My LO is a safe, healthy, and happy little girl.  My husband and I have not become paranoid hermits since becoming parents.

    1. Waited TTC until after I had 3 normal menstrual cycles.
    2. Got a new OB - amazing man who listened!
    3. 200 mg progesterone until 12 weeks
    4. Daily lovenox injections

Okay if you really think letting your dog lick her feet, and using a zip tie on a bike to secure the baby is the same thing, then you have some problems. I'm not at all paranoid or over-protective of DS, but this is just stupid.

Of course we all survived or we wouldn't be freaking typing this, but think of all the babies who DIDN'T survive the stupid stuff our parents did.  You're seriously going to put your baby's LIFE in danger citing "i didn't die and my parents didn't even use a carseat with me" as your reasoning?  Wow.

    O_O

None of the things you said were awful but the bike trailer is truly moronic.

I think the safety regulations and laws are in place nowadays BECAUSE of the ones that didn't survive the things our parents and grandparents did.

My grandparents rode around with their babies on their laps in the car brittany spears style. That doesn't make it something I will do!

And you're exactly the type of parent who is SHOCKED when something terrible happens to their kid because of some stupid thing they figured was safe. I see it all the time at work. Your dog licking feet and camping are completely different than using zip ties to secure something for your child. IDIOT.

  • I totally see your point but using the argument that our parents did worse is a bad one. ?What about all of the people that aren't here because of precautions not taken. ?Its like pushing the weight limit restriction on the bassinet....it just isn't worth the risk. ?Just wait until he is old enough and find other ways to enjoy time outdoors together. ?Not necessary to become a hermit....camping is fine, letting the dog kiss her feet is fine....rigging a carseat in a bike trailer with a baby under 18 months old is not. ?IMO
  • FYI, theres a great big freakin' Wall of China between being "paranoid hermits" and taking proper safety precautions in order to keep one's child safe.

    Just sayin'.

Ditto to all of this. There weren't even carseat laws in every state when I was born. Does that mean that I "don't use a carseat because my parents didn't and I turned out fine"?

For realz. You can't just wait? Is your own satisfaction worth risking your child's life? And zip ties? Seriously?
