One of your posters is talking about how she jury rigged a bike trailer with ZIP TIES and puts her baby in it? See the bike post below. Honestly, it's your kid but working for social services and seeing tons of referrals for idiotic things parents do I'd say this is an accident waiting to happen.
Re: Uh, did you guys miss the fact that....
Yes I saw that!
And yes, it is an accident waiting to happen. If it says 18 mos it says it for a reason.
Yep, and changing it up with plywood and zip ties is NOT making it safer.I cannot stress how stupid this is!
WTF?
I miss so much not coming here as much anymore.
Let's try this again...
I sure did and I'm proud of it! I think it's stupid how paranoid people are. I understand the desire one has for being safe and of course never putting their child's life in danger but some people just need to relax. Think about all of the crazy stuff our parents and grandparents did - we all survived didn't we?
Oh, and do you want to know what else I do with her that you probably think is crazy?? I took her on a pontoon boat - more than once! I let my dog kiss her feet! We've taken her camping and have had her sleep in a tent! She's sat by a campfire! We've taken her to the public pool!
Flame all you want... My LO is a safe, healthy, and happy little girl. My husband and I have not become paranoid hermits since becoming parents.

Things I did different with this pregnancy:
1. Waited TTC until after I had 3 normal menstrual cycles.
2. Got a new OB - amazing man who listened!
3. 200 mg progesterone until 12 weeks
4. Daily lovenox injections
Logic FAIL.

Okay if you really think letting your dog lick her feet, and using a zip tie on a bike to secure the baby is the same thing, then you have some problems. I'm not at all paranoid or over-protective of DS, but this is just stupid.
I think the safety regulations and laws are in place nowadays BECAUSE of the ones that didn't survive the things our parents and grandparents did.
My grandparents rode around with their babies on their laps in the car brittany spears style. That doesn't make it something I will do!
And you're exactly the type of parent who is SHOCKED when something terrible happens to their kid because of some stupid thing they figured was safe. I see it all the time at work. Your dog licking feet and camping are completely different than using zip ties to secure something for your child. IDIOT.
FYI, theres a great big freakin' Wall of China between being "paranoid hermits" and taking proper safety precautions in order to keep one's child safe.
Just sayin'.
Let's try this again...
Ditto to all of this. There weren't even carseat laws in every state when I was born. Does that mean that I "don't use a carseat because my parents didn't and I turned out fine"?
