Does your 3 yr old sometimes want to/ act like a baby?

DS will be 3 next month.  While he sometimes says he's a big boy and wants to do big boy things, he also will say he's a baby and can't do some things.  If I call him a baby, he says he's a big boy.  If I call him a big boy, he says he's a baby.  Is this normal?  I thought kids always wanted to be big!!!

    My 5yo still does this!  It's normal, it drives me nuts.

    My 4 yr old is doing this now.  Grrr... She can no longer put on her underwear, go get the toy she wants, etc...

    Yes! Drives me nuts too. She doesn't necessarily act like a baby, but she will start talking like a baby. We never even used baby talk with her so I don't know where she gets it. I can barely understand a word she's saying when she starts, and I have to repeatedly ask her to talk like a big girl so I can understand her.

    My 4 year old DD loves to pretend she's a baby, although it has tapered off a little as she's gotten older.  Mostly she likes to pretend to talk in a baby voice, and occasionally wants me to "swaddle" her and lay her on my bed.  Silly!
