Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Got the ErgoBaby carrier today... not loving it.

I tried it out in the store - seemed OK. Brought it home, tried to wear it around the house and just couldn't get it comfortable for the both of us. What worked for me did NOT work for her, and vice-versa.

I've tried every kind of carrier but the Moby wrap. For daily outings I take her in the Boppy sling, which works great! I'm just looking for an upright carrier that I can use around the house, etc. I'm also plus-sized and have back issues, so I'm not sure how supportive the moby is.

Any input would be much appreciated!

  • Did you try a Mei Tai? (I know you said you tried every one but i thought i'd ask anyway lol)

DS likes it for upright carries. He's getting a little chunky for the Moby, but maybe a woven wrap would be good.

I'm kinda jealous of your ergo though.

  • Trust me, the ergo is not all it's cracked up to be. It's difficult to adjust, and you have to readjust it to fit every time you put it on! I have tried the Mei Tai and just couldn't get it right. The biggest obstacle I've found with all of the carriers is that I can't find a happy medium for the both of us. Where I feel it needs to be tighter & more supportive ends up squishing her or making her uncomfortable. I'm tempted to try the moby as a truly last resort...ugh...

  • I think you should give it more of a chance.  It might not be adjusted right instantly.  Also, if it doesn't work this week, try again in another week.  I put ds in it forward facing, with his feet balled up and now that he is 5 months, I put him on my back.
  • Have you tired Baby K'tan? I really enjoy mine
  • I love my moby...its just hard to get it on/in by yourself IMO..I guess it takes practice!
  • I love my Beco.  The chest strap is hard to clip when the baby is in front, but it is really comfortable and the straps adjust very easily.

  • Oh no!  I bought one today and absolutely LOVE it.  Like you, I've tried a gazillion carriers and am beyond happy that one finally works for us.

  • they have waist extenders for the ergo. it might make things more comfortable.

i am an ergo lover, and i love it more as he's getting older.

  • What about the Baby K'Tan? I have one, I like mine a lot, though it is the only one I have tried. I use it every day and no   problems thus far!. Though it seems to run large...and its made of knit jersey like a Tshirt so it stretches even more. If you do order it, order it smaller. Pre-preg I am a 8-10 but have a big chest and seemed to be gaining,,,ahem..heavily durring my pregnancy so I ordered a Large. I honestly wish I had gone with a Small. It runs THAT big. GL!
  • Re: K'Tan: tried it & hated it. It isnt' at all adjustable, and I felt like the fabric was just way too stretchy, not supportive.
  • I made my own Moby-style wrap, and got a Baby K*Tan and love them both.  I'm a big person (6 feet tall and a size 12-14) and I got the K*Tan in medium.  For the wrap I used 5.5 yards of jersey fabric.

Why the eff did someone give this post one star?  I find that amusing.

    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • My DD would only stay in it if she was sick, teething or had shots when she was smmaller, but I recently tried it again (at 21 months) and she LOVES it.  I typically put the twins in the stroller and wear her on my back in the Ergo.  It is actually an awesome carrier I use daily now that DD is older,

Well that's just it - isn't the moby just an 18ft long piece of jersey fabric? I could get that at Joanne's. I also find it amusing that this post got "ranked"... 3 stars now. You know me - posting the thought-provoking questions. lol

  • I have the pikkolo carrier by catbird baby. ?Awesome!

I *almost* got the Pikkolo...but I got a great deal on the Ergo Sport, so I couldn't pass it up.

I've only had it for two days, but I am very happy with it. I would say that it fit better the second day than the first, so you may want to give it a couple more tries until you find a fit that feels good (tightening or loosening the waist/hip strap or the shoulder straps or the chest strap - all of which I was able to easily do while wearing Wes).

To be honest, the most comfortable of all my carriers IS my woven wrap (imagine a woven Moby), but it's a real PITA to put on at the quick.
