Anyone go from EBF transitioning into FF?

I've done total FFn(she never latched) w/ #1 & total EBF w/ #2 & I am just over it now & am ready to be done nursing before I have a nervous breakdown.  I've tried twice to give my EBF baby formula in a bottle & she will have no part of it...so how the hell do I stop EBFing & get her to take formula?  She'll take BM out of a bottle so that's not the issue...I think it's a taste issue.  What did you guys do?  Mix it up?  I never get much out when I pump anymore because I think i've regulated to only produce enough for her.  Gahhh!  Suggestions?

  • Try manually expressing. I EP'd for 6 months, and some days I could get more by just manually expressing. Try getting as much as you can and mixing BM and FF, then getting the ratio to more FF than BM.

Good luck! Also, call your pedi for free FF samples. She might like the taste of a different brand. No sense in spending $$$ on stuff she won't like.  We used Costco's version of Enfamil after using Good Start, which I didn't care for.

  • When we switched Zack we mixed it.  We started with 25% formula and the rest BM and gradually increased it.  It worked really well.  Also, try to do it on a weekend - she may be more willing to take it from DH.

  • Yes, for 2 of my 4 children.  My supply dries up when I get pregnant and they had to go onto the bottle.  I experimented with several types of formula.  I think I hear good start is the kid most babies take (from 2 pediatric nurses) b/c it tasts most similar to breastmilk.  Basically, they've always had to eat when they get hungry enough.  DD1 took it very soon, but DD2 wouldn't voluntarily suck it down for 2 weeks.  It was awful - her waking at all times day and night and still refusing to eat.  I talked to other parents, friends, drs, and they all said the same - she'd eat when hungry enough :(  And she did eventually.
  • I don't know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to tell you that your daughters are absolutely gorgeous and I just love all of their names.

  • Wish my DS would take Formula.  I can't pump for crap and he won't take formula out of a bottle.  Look forward to seeing what works.

Ditto this. I recently did this w/ DD after having mastis 3x and thrush 2x all w/in a six week period. She did great. She will now take a full bottle of BM, though I still have some frozen BM in the freezer.
