LONG!!!! BIL is such an a$$hat.

Okay so this is the same BIL who spewed out that stuff about 9/11. Anyway, yesterday I posted here that BIL had not called us back or facebooked us to let us know if he was going to come down for Nicholas' Baptism. He's the Godfather (for reasons unknown to me- I think he's got a screw loose).
So DH calls him up and says "So you think you guys can make it down?".
I only heard one half of the conversation, but DH kept saying "So if you get a job, tell them you have these plans. It's a month away". "Why would you take a train down? What plane crashed?" "Just fly into GSP"
"I've been asking you to come for a visit this is a good opportunity" (Thankfully he hasn't come down, lucky me). "You gotta come, you're the godfather" "Okay well maybe then I should rethink you as godfather". So BIL asked for that in writing (WTF). Then DH hung up on him.
OMG what a fukknuckle!!!! DH says to me "Don't stress about it". I said "I'm not. I don't plan to be". WHAT-EVER!!!!!
I am so pissed right now though. I think DH felt obligated to ask his brother to be the godfather, since I asked my sister to be godmother (but we are close). DH and his brother are not close (even though they are twins), I really don't know who else DH would ask. We have the date set for the christening, the sponsor certificates. So to me, BIL will be godfather in name only and on paper. BUT my other BIL (sister's DH) who will be standing in as the proxy godfather since reall godfather won't come, will be more of an Uncle to Nicholas.
I so wish my sister's DH can be the godfather. We can't even choose him because he is not Catholic, he can stand in though.
So yeah BIL and DH are twins and BIL was born 1st by 4 minutes. I tell DH, "Yeah,that's because he probably annoyed the crap out of you, you probably kicked him out of the womb". He is just ODD! I hope it's not hereditary- I'll keep an eye on DS.

Whether or not a church will do it depends on the individual pastors, but you technically only need one godparent to be Catholic. If your sister's DH is Christian, he can be a Christian witness.

I would personally just take your BIL off anything official - I wouldn't want his craziness associated with the good memories of a special day.

We asked our Church if sister's DH can be Godfather (he's Greek Orthodox, goes to Greek Church). They said no. He can be a stand in though.
I will still have good memories of the day. BIL won't be a thought in my mind.
This exactly.... don't have a godparent that you regret... because it will bother you and it will suck later on. In the catholic church only one parent needs to be catholic the other can be a christian witness as outlined by the pp. Please don't let that idiot be the godfather for you LOs sake.
