Too many!! I literally have like 20 of them (all gifts). You can use them for all sorts of things - swaddling, folded up as burp rags, lay them out and change diapers on top of them, lap pads...especially the little flannel ones. It's the fancy ones that I'm at a loss about...
I think the final count was like 27 or something. I took a lot back cause that was just ridiculous!! I think I have like 12 now. Some are handmade so there was nothing I could do about those, and the ones that were out of the packages/used on the diaper cake, or whatever else I had to keep those too. I loved them all but really I didnt need that many!
I have 6 already. 3 big ones and 3 regular ones. They are great for swaddling and they are the go-to item for: burp cloth, sun shade, light cover duing a nap in a a/c blasting car/bus/train whatever. They are also good to put down on a cold changing pad...Dr's table...etc. Then later on if you cut them up they make great dusters!
I have four which is plenty. ;-) I got Carter's receiving blankets because they are super large and really soft. I use them as blankets in the car seat. They're pretty useless for swaddling. Most babies are done with the swaddling by the time they get home.
Re: receiving blankets?
I have honestly too many-
I wont be buying any this pregnancy because I have all of them left over from Alek-
I didnt use them all that often. Alek hated being swaddled.
8 and i still have one more shower, meaning i will get more that i dont need!!
i plan on using them for what PP said... burp cloths and changing pads, spit rags, whatever. they are kind of the catch all multi purpose blanket
