1st Trimester

I said I wouldn't... I might've lied.

Got the doppler today...... found my hb, but no baby...... freaking out?  Maybe a little!  I said if I got one, I would not freak out if I couldn't find it, but it's stressing me!  Just heard it at my 2nd appointment on the 8th and it was loud and strong.  Any helpful hints ladies???  Calm me down!

TIA

Re: I said I wouldn't... I might've lied.

  • you may not be looking in the exact spot-if your pregnancy is not too far along the baby is still tiny and the doppler you can rent or buy is not as strong as the one the hospital uses - just my thoughts though.  i think everything will be ok.

  • Get rid of the doppler and leave it to the professionals!

I  don't own one so I'm not very helpful in the short term.  I'd trust everything is ok and get rid of it.

  • Helpful hint? Put the doppler down and quit freaking out.

I'm assuming you're not a doctor or in the medical profession. They have very expensive dopplers that I'm assuming you didn't buy. You're baby is still little. It's going to be difficult to pick up his HB with a cheap doppler right now.

    Stress only hurts the situation.

  • Most dopplers that are easily purchased online etc are not as sensitive as the one at your OB's.

  • This is the exact reason why I am NOT going to get a doppler.

  • I got my doppler last week and it took me a few days before I found it. I went straight down from the belly button and stopped right before the pubic bone. I just moved it and tilted it around. Finally, I heard a faster beat than my own and I got the numbers to stay around 160-170 for a few minutes. Don't worry though, it just takes some time. Once you find it for the first time, you will remember the spot and its easier to find again. Also remember to use enough gel so you hear less static. Good luck and don't drive yourself crazy!

  • It took me awhile to find it with mine, you just ahve to be patient. I ended up havin to go way off to the right of the pubic bone before I could hear it, then the next day I picked it up barely but could not stay on it, then the next heard just fine.  They are hard to find.

  • I stopped using my doppler because I had the exact same experience as you -- I said I wouldn't freak out if I couldn't find it, but I did.  I found it at 10w4d, couldn't find it at 10w5d (after an hour of looking) -- freaked out.  Found it at 11w3d, couldn't find it at 12w2d (20 minute of looking) -- freaked out.  I had my NT scan at 12w3d, and everything was fine.

For me, the doppler isn't worth the stress it causes me.
