Home from daycare trial day - didn't eat or sleep

Bailey went from 9am-12pm today for his trial day. I knew he wouldn't sleep. He doesn't nap well and he's a tummy sleeper so no big surprise there. I was kindof surprised he didn't eat through. He takes bottles from anyone and always eats it all. Well I look at his daily sheet and they tried to feed him only 2 hours after his last feeding and about 5 minutes after we left him. I told them several times he will not eat before 3-3.5 hours from his last feeding. I talked to them again about it before I left and they said he was fussy so I tried to tell them again that if he's fussy in that 3-3.5 hours then it's b/c he's tired not hungry. I know it's the first day but wouldn't you think they would listen to me since I have been feeding him for 3 months now. He's always gone at least 3 hours between feedings b/c he's huge for his age. Sorry just needed to vent and hopefully make myself feel better about leaving him. Tomorrow he's going 815am-3pm so I hope it goes better.

  • Ooohhh...I am so sorry to hear that his first day was so rough.  I can only imagine how hard it was to leave him in the first place and then to only learn that they did not fully listen to you.  Hope tomorrow is a better day for both of you.

  • I think you are probably already a little overwhelmed with this whole process and it is understandable. I know that I had to relinquish a lot of control when I put carter is his daycare.  They have to get a new routine of sorts down there because they are taking care of more than just one.  So there will be some changes but of course anything you dont feel comfortable with you should voice.  I'm sorry and I do promise it gets easier.
  • I hope tomorrow goes better, Wendy. I am sorry that Bailey's first day was so rough!
  • Thanks! I know it'll get better and they have to find a routine with him. It's just so hard. Not to mention it was a crazy morning with Bailey not wanting to wake up, to him having 3 poopy diapers in an hour, then he spit up all over himself and daddy (they both got to change clothes). Then we left and I forgot the bottles so we had to turn around. I think by the time we got there it was so overwhelming that neither one of us knew what to do. Crossing fingers tomorrow goes smoother since I have to actually go to my office.

  • I'm sorry, it's definitely a tough transition. DD was about 7 months when she started daycare, but it really only took about a week before she was in a groove. I'm not going to lie, she still naps better at home unless she is in the Toddler room with the older kids (now that she is almost 14 months). I agree they should follow your instructions, but they were probably just trying to pacify him if he was upset. Not saying it is right, but I know with DD it sometimes seemed they always wanted to feed her especially one teacher. We worked it out though. Hang in there. It will get better.

  • Sorry for a rough first day but you are smart to do a trial run. I'm sure it'll help ?a lot preparing for a better 2nd day. Good luck! I promise it'll get better.
  • Aw,I'm sorry Bailey (and Mommy!) had a hard day!  I hope that tomorrow goes better.  I'm sure it takes some adjustment for both of you.  Good luck!
