What will you do for your baby in the winter? Will you buy a poofy winter coat or snowsuit, fleece or sweatshirt material outerware or just layer?
I've heard that a big snowsuit can alter the effectiveness of the harnesses in their car seats. I have one fleece sack-type thing that has a hole for the seat belt to go through--only the bottom buckle of the infant seat.
I can't imagine having to bring a jacket with us, taking him out of the infant carrier when we get to our destination, putting the jacket on and putting him back in, only to have to take the jacket off again when he needs to be buckled back in.
Would you just dress LO in warm clothing and have a warm blanket for travelling somewhere and then only put LO in a snow suit or jacket if you plan on being outside for awhile?
Living in the area, you all know how frigid it can get here--below zero is NOT comfortable without proper attire. Just trying to figure out what I should buy for baby's winter gear.
Thanks!
Re: Soon it will be cold.... Outerware for baby
Olivia was born in January, so all through winter we just had her wear warmer clothes, strapped her in, put a blanket over her, and had a cover over her carseat that zipped up. We just kept that open in the car. Our friends had a similar thing for their LO, that was born last August, and used it all through the winter.
I was just wondering the same thing. Our LO is big, she's 8 months and 95% for height, 75% for weight, so she's out of her infant seat now. Her convertible seat still has the 5 point harness, and I also heard you shouldn't have anything "bulky" between baby and harness.
I was planning on just getting a normal winter coat for her, dress her warm, and put a blanket over her in the car still. Then probably just wrap the blanket around her when I carry her outside.
a thin fleece jacket is safe, as are the shower cap style car seat covers.
Bundle Mes and big snowsuits (including those buntings carter's sells) are 100000% unsafe.
The rule of thumb for jackets is this test: put baby in jacket/snowsuit/bunting. Adjust harness to fit correctly. Take baby out, take off outerwear. Put baby back in carseat. if you have to adjust the harness AT ALL, the outerwear is too thick.
Use blankets, unless you have to walk a mile to your car, your LO really won't be outside all that long this winter.

Thanks, ladies.
I do have one of those shower-cap cover things for his carrier. If I put him in heavy clothes and a blanket and then put the cover on, I think he should be ok. I just hope he doesn't get too big for his carrier when it's still winter. I mean, it won't be an issue--we'll figure it out--but it would be nice to be able to go through this thought process once instead of twice. And if we can go one more winter without having to buy a winter coat, that would be awesome!
