Babys Heart rate

My Husband just found out we are expecting last week. We went to the doctors Friday and had an ultrasound- they estimated me to be about 5wk5dy. However the heart beat was only 80. I have to go back for another ultrasounds in a week to ensure it has goen up and the babay is growing. My docotor didnt do a very good job of calming my nerves down- Im so worried. She said there could be something wrong or my date could be off.

Any thoughts?

    The heart rate increases as the baby grows. At 7 or 8 weeks, my LO's hb was only 130. So you are still early at 6 weeks. Also, it is possible that your dating is off, and you aren't really 6 weeks yet, so that could account for a lower rate.

    Heart rates change dramatically during the first couple weeks of life.  It is totally possible that you aren't as far along as they might think.  The heart only starts to show up on an ultrasound at 5 - 6 weeks so the best time to get an accurate reading would be a week or two after that.  Keep in mind that sometimes people can't even see the heartbeat at 5 weeks on U/S.

    There was a heart beat shown at my 1st U/S at 6w2d. The tech never mentioned the rate. I asked my OB what the rate was and his reply was "it's not important, don't worry about it since it was so early."

    My DD's heart rate was 114 at 6w4d so I'm sure where you are is fine.  My RE had me wait until I was 6 weeks do to an u/s and I'm sure seeing/hearing the heartbeat is one of the reasons. 

    Good luck and I'm sure your LO is doing well!

    I don't think that 80 BPM is that low considering how early you had the u/s.  You gotta remember that the heart has just started beating.
