Q from a 3rd Tri-er

I'm sure you guys get these kinds of questions a lot, but here goes anyway.

I'm plan on returning to work after having LO. I also plan on pumping at work. I've read some reviews online and still haven't been able to decide based on the reviews alone. I'm guessing I'll probably be getting a lot of use out of my pump, so I'll need something that can keep up with that without burning out. Any recs??

I was originally looking at the Playtex double electric pump because I like the idea of the drop ins and not spilling/wasting milk. I just want to make sure that's still the best option for my needs.

TIA!

  • I had the Medela Advance double pump and loved it.

  • I have the Medela pump in style and really like it.
  • I have the Medela Freestyle and I love it. I don't know anything about the Playtex pump, but Medela makes a great product. It's a little pricey ($379.00) but the Pump In Style is supposed to be great also and it's $100.00 cheaper I think.
  • Medla Pump in Style.  It is great.

  • I use the Ameda Truly Yours double electric, and it works great.  Bonus is that milk never enters the tubing, so you just have to wash the flanges.

I'm not a fan of the drop-in systems, but only from an environmental standpoint.  Lots of plastic bags in the trash.  However, I am using freezer bags for milk (only way it will fit in my freezer in small batches), so maybe it's not so much an issue if you're just going from freezer to bottle.

  • I have the Medela Pump In Style Advanced and love it. It's pricey, but worth it if you are committed to bfing/pumping. I waited to buy it till I had a 15% bru coupon.

I think Baby Bargains also rates the Ameda Purely Yours and it's Lansinoh equivalent pretty highly, too.

  • I have the Medela PISA and just love it.  DD was in the NICU for 3 weeks and during that time, I rented Medela's hospital-grade pump.  I'd say the PISA is nearly as good.  I always pump into bottles, then either keep them in the fridge for DD to use right away, or freeze the milk in Medela storage bags.  I haven't tried pumping directly into the bags, but that's because I would be wasting a lot of bag space (I don't get close to 5oz on the right side).  HTH!
  • Don't get the Playtex. It's not rates very high. Get a Medela. Or, if you can't spend that much, get the Lansinoh Double Electric. I have the Lansinoh and I really like it. I only pump once a day, but it seems very well made and sturdy.

  • Medela Pump in Style, I love it. Best money I ever spent.
