What car seat is your 3 y.o. in?

We need to buy a second car seat for my 3 y.o. and I'm looking for an economical option to keep him in a harness seat for at least another year. I love our Fisher Price Safe Voyage seat, but my understanding is they don't make those anymore.

Any recommendations? I love Britax seats, but since this is his second seat, that he won't be riding in as much, I'd like to be a little more economical.

  • Britax Frontier and Graco Nautalus I don't love the nautalus, but don't really like it either. I love my Frontier.

They both turn into high back and no back boosters. DD will be in a five point harness for as long as I can keep her in it, until at least 5 so it was a good investment for us.

  • Currently a marathon, but about to change it out for the Graco Natilus. ?
  • If you're looking for economical, then you're looking for a back-booster type carseat that uses the car's seat belt.  Ethan has one and I am so not comfortable with it.  Brooke is 3 and is in the Alpha Omega Elite (in pink of course) and is about to outgrow the top straps and apparently that carseat is not a very good one as far as being a booster.

SO, the general consensus absolutely everywhere seems to be the graco nautilus which puts me, given what I have in my cars, needing to buy four of them.  It's the only one, or the only one decenlty priced, still pricy though, that goes to 65lbs with the 5pt harness.

  • I have the sunshine kids seat.  It isn't economical, but it is a great seat and I can still fit a human in the back of my rather small car with it and an infant seat.  I did not have much luck finding a second seat that was inexpensive.  We are in the same situation soon and I have been looking.  Not looking forward to spending $$$ to get 3 more Sunshine's (2 for DS and 1 more for DD), but they will use them for 4+ years, so I am not willing to skip it to save $50.
  • My girls are tiny, but they both have Britax Marathons for my car and Costco Seneras for DH's car.  They rarely (probably less than once a month) ride in DH's car, but every once in a while, they need something.  The Costco are rated as safe as anything else, but are really cheap.  They're not the most comfortable but for around town and once in a while, I wasn't too worried about it.  They're $45 at Walmart usually.
  • Our 3 1/2 year old DD is in the Graco "My Ride 65."  That has a 5-point harness up to 65 lbs (rear OR forward facing).  She is 35 lbs currently.
  • DD is in the Britax Boulevard.  I plan on keeping her in it as long as I can.  In fact, she is still RF.  (She is only in the 10% for weight and height)  At her growth rate, she'll need a booster in high school!
  • currently my 3 yr old is in a britax marathon, but will soon be getting a graco nautilus because my youngest will be getting his marathon.
  • currently DS is in a Graco Sport, but we will soon be switching him to the Graco Nautilus, because we will need the Graco sport for DS #2 who is quickly outgrowing his infant seat.

  • We have the Safety 1st Apex 65 and have been happy with it. It harnesses to 65 lbs and then turns into a booster (with back). It is cheaper than the Graco nautilous. Only thing is that it's a pretty wide seat, but not sure how wide the comparables are.
  • RIght now she is in a Britax marathon and an evenflo advanced.  Evenflo is comming out with a new seat in oct its going to be under $100.  It has a harness just about the same as graco nautiltus and goes to 65 lbs then turns in to a booster seat.
  • She has a Graco Nautilus in one car (which will become a booster) and a Britax Marathon in the other. I also just bought the TrueFit when there was the deal at kidswoot, and that harnesses up to 50", which is the same as the Nautilus.

The my ride only REAR FACES to 40 lbs NOT 65 lbs.  PLEASE STOP TELLING PEOPLE THIS.  I have said this before after you say it rear faces to 65 lbs in many posts.
