Question for a friend

A friend of mine is about to have her first baby, and she asked me if the bottles have to be the same brand as the brest pump - I told her I had no idea - but I would ask here.

Thanks for any input you have:)

Re: Question for a friend

  • I'm assuming you mean the bottles that attach to the breast pump. I'm not sure, but I would err on the safe side & buy the same brand.

  • It possibly depends on the type of pump.  I had the Lansinoh (the same as the Ameda Purely Yours) pump, and I could attach any small mouthed bottle to it.
  • It is really hard to find an answer online - so I appreciate your input:)  It sounds like the safest way to go in to match brands - or at least consult w/the (hopefully) knowledgeable store-clerks.
  • Even better than store clerks is to contact a local lactation consultant that sells/rents pumps.  They will have good advice.

  • I used a Medela pump to pump into Medela storage bottles.  However if you're talking the bottles the baby will eat from - I poured milk from the Medela storage bottles into Dr. Browns bottles for baby to eat.

  • A lactation consultant is an excellent idea!  Thanks!
  • I used Mother's Milk storage bottles, and have both an Ameda and a Medela pump.  They are both the standard size.  I did have a hand pump that for some reason used a wider-mouth storage container.  I did not use the storage containers for regular feeding bottles though.  HTH.
