TTC After a Loss

OB appt update (long)

So he walks in and says "YOUR PREGNANT!"  DH and I look at him like are you FVCKING CRAZY? Indifferent His excitement dropped quickly after we gave him the "are you effing with me?" look.  He said ya as long as they double within 72 hours you are fine and to have hope.  Im still not convinced.  He couldn't give me a striaght answer as to why they are so low, I thing my tons of second guessing questions made him second guess himself.  Don't get me wrong I love my OB and he is a wonderful Doc but I want to know now before its too late and I end up losing a tube or something.  He then said well we will see what they betas say on Tues and if they still go up then we should be able to do a U/S in two weeks.  I went in wanting a straight answer, is an EP?  Is it viable?  What the hell is it??

All I got was I have to wait.  So Im trying my best to be patient.  DH is now on cloud 9 since the doc said everything looks good.  BUT IT DOESNT TO ME!  Now if something goes wrong AGAIN I have to console not only me but DH cause he gets his hopes so high up there, its like a crash and burn when we lose it.  Ugh why I can't I be a normal PG woman where everything is hearts and flowers and babies?  I honestly wish I didn't know anything about betas, or numbers, or doubling and I could be that naive girl I once was with my first PG, just happy.  Now Im a wreck.  Thanks once again for letting me vent.

Re: OB appt update (long)

  • hmmm, well i hope that it is good news and that this little one is going to stick around.  what is the interval of the betas?

  • I think you might want to cross post this on SAL.  Maybe some of those ladies would have more input into this.  GL and I hope your baby sticks.
  • I am so sorry that you still haven't gotten any straight answers as to what is happening. I really hope your OB is right and this has a happy ending for you! Will your RE do an earlier u/s for you so you don't have to wait two more weeks?

  • I think it is very safe to be guarded at this point. With my 2nd pregnancy, the betas doubled slowly at first then they skyrocketed.  We thought we were in the clear - that is until I had a beta of 40,000 with an empty uterus.  I ended up having a blighted ovum.  Long story short - it can either be viable or not.  Slowly rising betas are more consistent with impending loss or ectopic, but that is not 100%.  And likewise, appropriately doubling betas doesn't guarantee you anything.

For that reason, I do not and will not emphasize betas to my pregnant patients.

I have my fingers crossed for you!  I hope beyond anything that this is your sticky little one.  Hang in there.

They are all 48 hours apart, so I guess if you take every other one out, they kinda do double... but Im still not convinced.  Im so impatient but I guess I have to wait it out.  He said they should be around 400 on Mon (get results Tues).  So then I asked and if they're not?  He said lets just see what the results are Tues, I will be calling you.  Damnit, where the eff is his crystal ball?

Not my RE is out of state at a conference until the 24th, thats why I saw my OB in the first place.  Stupid conference.

  • I am really hoping for a positive outcome for you.  Like DCA said, high rising betas don't necessarily guarantee anything either.

I'll be looking for your post on Tues.  Good Luck, Break a Leg, all those good things!

  • Oh, Gomez! I'm so sorry you're still waiting. It seems like you've been waiting for weeks now.

How far along are you? 5 weeks?

I really hope that your OB is right, and that all is fine. I'm rooting for you, DH and LO.

  • I'm so sorry you haven't gotten any clear answers yet.  I don't know why he couldn't just do an u/s to check your tubes for anything.  Is it just too early or did he just not want to do it?  It is after all your money, so what's the big deal for him?  I hope Monday provides some answers and a little bit of hope for you, although I could see how you would still be a little reluctant.

Ya he said its too early to even see anything,  I gues your betas have to be at least 1500 to see a sac.  Since Im so far away from it thats why he wants to wait two weeks, I should be at those #'s by then.  If I keep rising like I am.

  • Gomez, I hope that this is your sticky baby
I know the waiting is HE double hockey sticks!
