Where did your twins sleep at first?

We've heard all kinds of things about where to put the twins for sleeping in the early months: 2 co-sleepers, in the bed, 2 basinets in the bedroom, right into the crib in the nursery, etc.  What did you do and how did it work for you?  We are looking for any suggestions, as we begin to evaluate our space and think about our layout when the twins come.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Re: Where did your twins sleep at first?

  • Our singleton boys slept in a PNP in our room for the first 8-10 weeks.

For the twins, we're planning to build one crib in our room for both to sleep in at first. (We'll also already have the 2nd crib in the nursery so that we can easily separate them when they're ready.)

  • Our singleton son slept in a bassinet in our room for the first 4 months, and that worked well for us.

This time around I'm either going to get a second bassinet or an Arms Reach CoSleeper.  After that I'll transition them to separate cribs in the nursery.

  • Are there any bassinets or co-sleepers that fit two in one?  Thx!

  • Our twins sleep in the PNP bassinet. It holds up to 15 lbs. But many nights, they end up in between us in bed, usually after a feeding before they go back to sleep.
  • Our twins wouldn't sleep in their cribs or PNP or Co-Sleeper.  The only place they would sleep at first was in their bouncy chairs, we have the Boppy bouncy chairs. We tried them together in everything listed above and seperate and they would just scream.

  • Our babies went straight to the crib in the nursery from the NICU after we brought them home. They still share a crib at this point. We did this for the most part because of space reasons. We live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and there was no space in our bedroom for them, it's worked out great for us.?

The Original Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper can fit two infants. It has a larger weight capacity than Pack n Plays. This is what we plan on using for our twins in our bedroom in the beginning.

It's sold at Babies r Us.

  • We had our babies in the Arm's Reach Original Cosleeper in our room for a few nights, some nights the crib. By about 2 weeks they were sleeping entirely in their crib in the nursery; between the two of them, they just made two much noise and were too wakeful at night for either of us to be able to really sleep in the same room as the babies. So DH and I started sleeping in shifts. (We had a guest bed still in the nursery at that point along with the one crib, so the "on-duty parent" could catch a quick nap here and there.

  • Our twins are currently sleeping in the same crib for now- we also have a playpen that they might sleep there during the day, not sure yet- my DH and I wanted to avoid having the babies in our bed so we did not get the co-sleeper, it would be easier especially at night, but so far so good with our routine :)

  • The first two weeks, they either slept in their separate cribs in their nursery (all our bedrooms are upstairs), or in their bassinets in their Pack and Plays if we were downstairs.  There at the beginning night and day weren't too different since the babies were eating every 3 hours, so we hadn't really set a "bedtime" place to sleep yet.

  • our boys slept in a chicco playyard bassinet until they approached the weight limit (25 lbs).  Although i wanted to keep them in our room longer, bending over the PNP several times night would have killed my back, so they went into a crib in the nursery after that.
  • They slept in Anakin's bassinet until they outgrew it. Then we bought a co-sleeper. They're still in it.
