Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Please help! Need carseat recommendations asap!

We just found out that the 3 Britax carseats, all hand me downs, we have are all expired! She is getting way to big to keep in the infant carrier and we need to switch her asap! I need recommendations for good carseats, and plan to buy soon before the BRU great exchange ends at the end of the month. Anyone try thr new Air protect one? https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3601277

Thank you! Big Smile

We have this....DS loves it.  Sometimes hard to loosen the straps but I like it.  It is less than all the britax seats.

    never mind....just found it

  • Britax Marathon - we love it so much we have two!    It is well worth the extra $$!!!
  • Here is my personal opinion on it:

There are several reviews over at car-seat.org

It is a very tall seat.  It will last most kids RF for a very long time.  However, it's lowest harness height is 10.5"  DS still does not fit in this seat.  Remember, for RF the harnesses must be at or below the shoulders.  The lowest harness slot is above DS's shoulders at this point.  He is not a big baby, but he's not tiny either.  Personally, while I think it is great in concept, there are still a few issues I'd like worked out.  I don't like that the harness height and the height of the head wings are connected the way they are.  If they were able to adjust to any height (like the Boulevard) I'd be fine.  But, there are set harness heights and what if your child has a big head and long neck.  Then their head could theortically be above the wings.  Also, I'm just not comfortable with a 40 lb child RF without some sort of RF tether or Anti-rebound Bar.  This is a personal thing.  It just really like the extra safety of a RF tether. The last is really silly.  I think it just feels like a cheap Dorel/Cosco seat.  It feels cheap.  For $250, I'd like it to feel a little more substantial.  I won't be getting one.  I am just not that in love.  Others are.

Personally, I'd look at the Sunshine Kids Radian.

I'm very excited to see more 40 lb RFing seats on the market.  I'm just not thrilled by this one.

Also, several people have told me their child complained about the back of the seat where the headrest meets the back.  Apparently, it is quite hard.

Here is my opinion on the car seat pp suggested:  Alpha Omega/ Eddie Bauer 3-in-1:

I generally don't recommend them.  First, they are a PITA to install (at least RF).  Second, they are short.  They will not last a child to booster age.  You will need another harnessed seat before your child is booster age (5-6 years old).  The top harness slot is unusable in harnessed mode.  No, I don't know why they put it there. Which leads me to my last point.  They advertise as a do-it-all seat but they are quite possibly the worst boosters ever.  I've never seen a child actually fit in one with the seat belt positioned correctly using it in booster mode.  I would NEVER put a child in one as a booster.

ETA: I thought I should add what seats I do recommend:

Sunshine Kids - all are great.  Some RF to 40 lbs. As of the end of Oct, they are releasing 2 that RF to 45 lbs! One of the tallest shells on the market.  This seat will actually get you to booster age! FF weights vary by version.

First Years True Fit- (also Premeiere)  - the Premiere version has an anti-rebound bar that I love.  It also has a very tall back.  This will also most likely last until booster age.  RF to 35 lbs. FF to 65 lbs.

Graco My Ride- RF to 40 lbs.  FF to 65.

Evenflo Triumph Advance - Rf to 35 lbs.  Only FF to 50 lbs.

Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Roundabout 50.  All RF to 3Marathon and Blvd FF to 65, Roundabout 50 to 50 lbs.  Britax is always a good seat.
