Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

2 naps down to 1; what's your schedule with DC now?

For us (and this is only week #2, now) it seems to be:

Up around 7

Snack ~10 (acc. to the nanny)

Nap 11-1 or 1:30

Lunch after nap

Etc., etc.

I figure this works for DD now so don't want to rock the proverbial boat, but it seems strange to me that she can go 2 hours asleep sometimes before she's had her next substantial meal of the day.  I get home at 5:30 from work so dinner is ~6, but since we dropped a nap she hasn't been as interested in dinner.  I presume it's from the late lunch and then even later snack.

Thoughts on shifting anything around, or did your DC start off this way with a single nap midday, but before lunchtime?  I hear the ideal is to do early lunch at 11, then naptime at 12, but DD just cannot stay awake that long in the first part of the day.  She does, however, do just fine going from 1-7pm awake.  Always thought it'd be the opposite; weird!  Thanks for your experiences...

  • Try and push nap time to 11:30 -12 and serve lunch before.

For us lunch is now at 11:30-12 and nap starts at 12:30-1 and he sleeps about 3 hours.  He has been on 1 nap for over 4 months.

  • Is she not hungry in the morning -- maybe she can get a bigger breakfast/morning snack?

DS is in daycare and this is his AM schedule.  He also just started with one nap per day.

8 AM - wake, milk bottle, handful of Cheerios, goes to daycare

    9:30 AM -- breakfast and water/juice

    11 AM -- lunch

    11:30 - 1:30 (roughly) - nap

  • Up between 7 and 8

Snack at around 9:30 or 10

    Mini lunch at 11:30

    Nap from 12-3

    Mini lunch #2 after nap

    snack at around 4:30

    Dinner at 6

  • This is our schedule now:

    7:30/8 wake up

    Breakfast

    10 ish- small snack

    11:30 lunch

    12:15/12:30- 2 hour nap

    3:00 snack

?He goes to bed at 8.

We went right to the nap after lunch because he goes to daycare at noon every week day and they nap all of the one year olds around 12:30 there. So, we kind of forced this schedule on him.... he does get tired earlier before going to daycare (he is with DH in the mornings), but we are making it- it has only been two weeks on this schedule since school started & he went back to daycare (i teach).?

  • I am so jealous seeing these 2-3 hour naps.  I am really doing something wrong.  I can't get DS to sleep more than an hour max.

How long has he been down to one nap a day?  It took DS a few weeks to lengthen his single nap.

Uggh me too DD will only sleep 1 1/2 tops from 12-1:30, then she is so tired by 5pm.  I don't know how to get her to sleep longer either??

  • DS is also in daycare and they do 1 nap for the Young Toddlers (the class he's in) so his schedule is:

6:15 wake up, bottle handful of cheerios, go to daycare around 7:00

    7:15 breakfast

    9:30 snack

    11:00 lunch

    12-2 ish nap

    3:00 snack

    6:00 dinner

    7:30-8:00 bed

On the weekends sometimes he does one nap but lots of times he does two-1hr naps.

  • Up around 6:30, milk

Breakfast around 8:30 (can't be bothered before that)

Snack at 10:30 (usually cheese and crackers maybe some fruit)

    Nap 11-1:30/2

Lunch around 2 (I make her biggest meal of the day for lunch)

Dinner at 6:30 (more like a large snack than a dinner)

    Bed at 7:30/8

  • Schedule is something like this (times somewhat flexible though). We did nap at 11 and lunch after for the first few weeks we switched to 1 nap. After he was used to that we pushed it to after lunch.

    7:30 wake up/bottle of milk

    8- breakfast

    10-snack

    11:30-12 lunch

12:15/12:30ish- nap usually about 1.5 hours

    3 snack

    6-dinner

    7:30 bottle/bedtime

I can't get DS to sleep longer than 30 minutes.  An hour seems like heaven!  He still takes 2 naps (actually needs 3) since they are 30 min.

  • My DS is up around 8, then naps around 12. We do lunch after his nap. He gets a snack around 11, and his bottle before naptime, so his belly is plenty full. He's just not hungry enough for a full lunch at 11 since he eats breakfast later. So we kind of end up doing 2 mini-lunches, one before the nap for his snack and one after. It works for us.
