Tricyclen users - pls come in!

YAY! I FINALLY got my BCP!

I havent BFed for about 1.5 months.. and i still dont have AF. I can just start my pack tomorow, right?

    Yes, but you will need to use a back-up method for a week.

    ya.

    I dont know why, but I'm sort of nervous about going back on BC. Maybe i'm scared of getting pregnant on it and it affecting the baby..?

    I got my Tricyclen script at my 6 week appt, but my doc said that I had to wait to start taking it until the Sunday after my first period.

    You don't have to wait (I would have been waiting MONTHS to start BC if I had to wait - I have PCOS).  That's why there's a Sunday start.  If you were going to wait around for your period you would start it on the first day of your period since you are protected from day 1 with that method.

    Hahaa! Thanks. I'm a little paranoid about screwing it up for some reason. Its been a while since I've been on a BCP - last BC I was on, was the NuvaRing.

    I wonder if she told me this because I am still BF and she doesn't want my supply to go down???  SHe did warn me that my supply would drop on the pill.  I told her I wanted to BF til atleast 6 months, so maybe she figured that I would get my period soon after that.

    Has anyone else started using this Tricyclen while still BF and before they got their period???  DId your supply drop drastically?

    WHOA!!! Hold on there! You CANNOT BF while taking Tricyclen! Yaz, the mini pill - okay, but not this one! I personally didnt feel comfortable taking any sort of BCP while BFing. Apparently some BCP are safe.. but who knows? in a couple years they may find out that it wasnt so safe afterall.

    ...I'm pretty sure you shouldn't take this BC if you are BFing.  You should be on the mini pill.

    hmmm, why would my doc write the script then???  I would hope she knew the risks.  i haven't filled the script yet because i didnt like the idea of taking it while bf.  Should I go back to her and ask for a script for the mini pill?  what is that exactly??

    Yes, you should contact her.  Maybe she missed that you were BFing.  The mini pill is a progesterone only BC pill.  Unless your baby is 6 months or older and is eating solids, then you want to avoid combination pills that contain both estrogen and progesterone. 

    Go here to read about the different types.  Most women here are on the mini pill or have an IUD (non hormonal) inserted while they are breast feeding.
