What did you do for your primary when you left?

james has a primary nurse and i wanted to get her a little gift of thanks (he should be home in the next 2-3 weeks so i wanted to start thinking now) what is appropriate to get the primary nurse or for the NICU staff? i see things being delivered (cookie boxes, lunches, chocolate) what did you do???? thanks for the help!

Re: What did you do for your primary when you left?

  • I took a few dozen cupcakes and a card into the NICU 1 week after DS came home.  It wasn't necessarily for any one person and I took them in right before a shift change so that both shifts would have a chance to have one (they worked on 12 hour shifts).

  • We put together a small gift consisting of some nice chocolate, a candle, and some stationary/paper.  Also we wrote a poem from Andrew to the nurses with his original footprint on it.
  • We just got her a bottle of antibacterial lotion and soap in a scent I knew she liked (from chatting the hours away)

Since then, we've taken cupcakes for her birthday, cookies at Christmas and we keep in touch on FB.

  • we took food in several times during Robbie's stay. (Muffins, cupcakes, candy, danish etc) and made sure to make sure both shifts got some. We honestly didn't do anything specifically for our primaries, except that I did write letters to each of them (and our favorite Neo and chaplain.)
