S/O: Crawling out of crib?

For those of you w/ babies or kids who crawled out of cribs.....don't they fall on the floor & get hurt?  Did you put something under there to break their fall?  I think Jared would like to crawl out of his crib, he just hasn't figured it out yet.  I have a feeling he'll just do it one day & that will be it - no more keeping him in.  Luckily we're not there yet.

All of our bedrooms are upstairs, so we've got a gate at the top of the stairs.  We've only had it there for about a week now, so we're not used to it yet.  I just wanted it there in case Jared crawls out & toddles around.

  • they make those tent cribs for the "crawler outters"! Jaxon has started putting his leg up like he's trying to figure out how to get out himself. then there's Miss J at 25 months old, who has no desire to escape her crib. she just waits for me, Jaxon on the other hand ...

  • I think she did it twice from her crib and once or twice from the PNP that she napped in at her sitter's house before we switched (to a toddler bed at home and a Kidco Peapod at her sitter's). Luckily, she did not get hurt any of the times. I have no idea how... she must've been smart enough to slide down the rails or something. All I know is that I left the room and she was in her crib, and came back and she wasn't. We didn't have anything under the crib to break her fall...

Her bedroom is upstairs too, and ours is downstairs. So a few months before she was actually able to climb out, we put a childproof handle on the inside of the door to her room. That way, we knew that even if she climbed out unexpectedly, she wouldn't be roaming around or falling down the stairs. We do also have a gate at the top of the stairs that we used to keep her upstairs during the day, but it's too easy to forget to close it when we go to bed at night, and it wasn't worth the risk.

  • Mine didn't fall out- they kinda hold on and "climb" down to the ground.  They are more able than we give them credit for! :)

You could also think about putting a gate at the door of his room for a little extra security. ??
