Success after IF

Chunky purees make Jack barf. As does ground up chicken, apparently.

He is NOT a fan of textured ANYTHING.  He can hold and eat a mum-mum (which literally melt in your mouth so he has only has to chew a little.)  But chunkier purees - even VERY smoothly pureed sweet potato with just a little bit of very finely, teeny tiny pieces of ground up chicken - nope.  Gagging and wretching with the occasional full on barf.

Smooth purees - loves 'em.  Will eat anything - veggies, fruits, whatever.  Eats baby cereal (not too chunky!!) and yogurt too.  And that's where we're stuck for now.  Oh well.  He can take his little pureed lunch to kindergarten someday I suppose...

  • Mine will eat the stage three foods with the little chunks in it but I am still struggling with them and any finger foods besides cheerios, mum mums, puffs, and cheese. And I started baby food very early. before they were 6 months.
  • Loading the player...
  • Jack can't even do a puff.  Gagging and wretching ensues.  I don't want to push it (and pedi is not pushy at all, says let him take his time) - but then I see other moms posting about their same age babies practically eating steak and potatoes and I wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

  • If it helps Riley isn't much ahead of Jack. I know it is hard to not compare but remember that you are tending to Jack not their babies.
  • he'll get it, Alicia... give him time!  maybe offer him something chunky once a week or so... and eventually, it will either intrigue him, or he will be so hungry he will eat it and his gag reflex will be less, too

  • I found that black beans (canned and rinsed super well) were good finger foods for Lilah.  She could pick them up and they are very soft.  Small pieces of avocado too.  But if he isn't ready don't worry.  Every kid is different.  Oh she LOVED mac and cheese, LOVE it.

  • Sophie and Hannah skipped chunky purees and went straight to finger foods.  I don't know why they were fine with finger foods but the Stage 3 foods made them gag.
  • Caroline is just getting the hang of Stage 3 purees at 13 months.  She loves to feed herself, but not enough food actually gets into her mouth, so we still "supplement" with purees.  So far, the only stage 3 purees that she likes are Earth's Best.  Their chunky foods "melt" in the mouth (I've tried it, so I know--call me "brave momma"...haha!).

Hang in there!  He'll get it eventually!
