RP: Anyone with Picky Picky Picky Eaters?

I am usually a lurker but I need some ideas.? My almost 17 month old will not try new foods.? She will eat pasta, cheese, cottage, cheese, scrambled eggs, breads, crackers, and LOTS of fruit.? Her veggies are limited to peas, raw carrots (i watch her like a hawk), corn, and cucumbers.? Ever time I offer her new foods she doesnt even handle them with her hands.? If there is nothing she likes on her plate she says NO and cries.? If I put peanut or almond butter on rice cakes or crackers she wont eat them.? Even tried PB on banana (and she LOVES banana) and she wouldnt eat them.? I am at a loss of what to do.? I hate to slave in the kitchen and she wont even touch the food.? If I knew she would at least taste it and spit it out I would be fine with it. She wont touch meats at all....except morning star sausage patties and an occasional fish stick. ? I do offer her what we are having as well.?When i try to sneak things into other foods, i.e. lentils in rice, she wont eat it.? ?Any suggestions????? I would also love some meal ideas.

  • DS used to eat anything and everything I put in front of him. Now he sounds like your daughter. I just keep offering and try to have something on his plate I know he will eat (usually fruit & cheese) so I know he's not going hungry. I'm not getting into making him 5 different meals. I'm hoping eventually he comes out of it. He does better for other people and will eat things he wouldn't normally eat if it's someone elses food (he'll pretty much eat anything my husband is eating!) . So if I'm desperate, I make something and pretend it's mine- sometimes I can get him to eat a few bites of something that doesn't fall under the "picky toddler" category.

  • your dd eats more than my ds...

my ds eats apples, bananas, gold fish, pasta, and chicken.   yes that really is ALL!

however, to answer your question...i do try to give him what i am eating.  sometimes he will take one taste and i consider that succcess.  sometimes he gags even looking at the unwanted food item.  i figure as long as he is eating something, we are getting somewhere (he didn't eat solid food until he was about 15 months).  just keep trying...that is what i tell myself!

  • DS is not that picky, but will not try anything NEW these days.  If it does not look like the usual fare, he is not trying it.  "They" say that children sometimes need to try a new food up to 15 times before developing a liking towards it.  I would just keep trying to offer your DC new things, and as PP said, always have something you know she eats on the plate

  • DS is also very picky. You would swear I was trying to feed him poison every time I put something new down in front of him.  He gets this look of disgust on his face like you would not believe.  I have learned a new trick recently.....although not very table manner friendly...he likes to eat things off my plate.  If I put my plate within his reach (making sure he doesn't grab it away), he will pretty much eat anything that's on there.
  • thanks ladies, its good to know i am not alone....I wish she would eat off mine or my husbands plate....she is on to our tricks! ?I cannot trick her for the life of me! ?Oh well....will just keep doing what I am doing.
