Preemies

Why'd I buy an eBay Halloween Costume??

I bought a "preemie 3/6mo" costume on eBay (my first mistake)... it said it was a "giraffe" costume, which I thought was fantastic - even though I didn't see any giraffe horns on it (my second mistake). I get the costume in the mail today and not only is it NOT A GIRAFFE - it's a horse - but it's also ENORMOUS on Savannah. Like a good 7in too long and incredibly too wide. I didn't think she was too terribly small for a preemie of her age. And despite how cute she looks in the horsey head:

Here Horsey!

... I think I'm going to need to get another outfit. Anyone interested in selling their LO's old Halloween costume from when they were younger? Savy is 3.5mo old, 7.5lbs, and 19.5in. Plus she should grow quite a bit more in the next month.

Or do you think I should take this costume to get tailored? Is that insane to think of doing?

  • I'm trying to find LO a costume too.. I think I'm going to have to get one altered.  I even went to the fabric store to MAKE one and ugh.  They had a pattern that went small enough (7 - 10 lbs) but they didn't have any fake fur to make it.  Then I went to ON and all of those were HUGE.. 0-6 months looks more like 12.

DH thinks I'm crazy by the way.  He doesn't understand why I'm so excited about her costume.  I love Halloween.  It's my favorite holiday ever.

I sure do admire you for attempting to make one! I have NO skills in that department unfortunately. My DH also shook his head at me when I told him I was ordering her a Halloween costume. They just don't understand how fun it's going to be!! (if I ever find a costume that fits, that is)

  • My son (3 y/o now) was a lion when he was 5 months old, which is how old DS will be when Halloween rolls around (actual).  I had a hard time with the 0-6 costume I got from Children's Place (in 2006)...the body was too stuffed and the head too big.  So even though I am in love with the monkey one there, I opted for a sleeper costume from Walmart, just soooo much easier.  He will make anything cute.  Heck, it was only $8 so he could just wear it as an outfit if I find anything else I have to have.

They do have a giraffe by the way....

  • Do you have a Carter's near you?  If so we had luck there last year for Brendan. We got him a newborn sized costume it was a little big but perfect because I had him in a full outfit under, since it was chilly on Halloween in Philly.  Plus he wore it later on in the fall-winter when it was cold and well because I loved him in it so much lol.

Personally i wouldn't get it tailored it wouldn't be cost effective.  Unless you have a family member that can do it for free.

  • I made Max's costume last year... we bought a blue hooded sleeper and I added claws made of fun foam and a tail made of a feather boa, and made him a crown of fun foam and boa.

The fit was good, because it was just a sleeper, and I altered it to make it a costume! I had no sewing skills whatsoever, but it was easy!
