Anyone else with TMJ?

My eff'ing jaw is killing me!! I cant open my mouth too wide to the point where I cant even bite a sandwhich because it hurts. I have to squish it so its basically flat so it fits in my mouth. Its only this bad when I have flare ups. Some Ibuprofin tonight should help. Knew those 800mg of ibuprofin from my d&c were good for something.

I pretty much know I need surgery. I have been told they need to break my jaw, realign it, and wire it for a week. I just cant go through that right now.

Anyone else a TMJ sufferer?

I used to have TMJ from wearing heavy rubber bands for braces. What a pain LITERALLY! Mine was corrected with chiro and massage. Sounds really weird but it worked. The chiropractor would put a glove on and stick his finger back into my jaw and twist his finger. PAIN!!!! My massage therapist would massage my jaw. It took quite a while but I rarely have an issue with it anymore.

I was for a while there but chiro really corrected it. Have you seen a chiropracter about it? They can use the little metal adjuster thing (it's clicky and very non-scary).

I used to have problems with this because I was a major jaw clencher--all during the day I'd clench my teeth and at night I'm a grinder. Keeping my teeth apart during the day has helped a ton--I also had to give up gum. But I don't think mine sounds nearly as bad as yours.

Do you have a night guard that you wear regularly? I swear by mine. I'm a clencher during the day and a grinder at night. DH woke me up once because I was grinding my silver fillings together and I heard them make this awful noise-I couldn't reproduce that sound if I tried! I'd recommend getting one at your dentist or at least one OTC(although they aren't as good). Also eat soft foods, use warm compresses to the jaw, and take motrin around the clock. Good luck!

I have it quite bad and even though I wear my nightguard religiously, I am still dying from the pain. I was just complaining about it yesterday because I think I have been extra stressed lately preparing to pay for this IVF. My entire left side of my body aches from the pressure I am putting on my jaw. What a bizarre affliction, isn't it?

I have it baaaaddddd!!!!!!!!!!

My TMJ issues were noticeable when I was around 11 years old. In college, I had my lower jaw moved forwarded to align it better and wore appliance 24/7. I have so many headaches, popping jaws, locking jaws(locks both when open and shut). I avoid gum and sourdough bread. Some nights I have to put a heating pad on my jaw and I have a custom pillow to prevent me from sleeping on my side so I don't squish my jaws.

I am too scared to take the next step! They would have to either use my rib or hip bones to place for the jaw, and there is a good chance I can lose feelings between my mouth and my ears. I would look bad dribbling while trying to drink water and I cannot imagine not feeling the skin of my DH when we kiss. So I am going to just tolerate it in the meantime.

I have terrible TMJ. When it gets real bad- I take a bath and submerge to my jaw line. Also, I have a splint that really helps. My doc gives me vicodin and flexeril too...

Doesn't it suck!?!?
