Anyone not going with a travel system?

What do you plan on using? I've been looking at travel systems and they just seem so big and bulky to me. The infant carriers are really heavy IMO. Is there an alternative to travel systems that I just don't know about? Everyone I know uses them, just seeing if there are other options. Maybe they're not as overwhelming as they seem and I'm just clueless about them!  Thanks for any info!

Re: Anyone not going with a travel system?

  • we didnt get one for DD1.  I did have an infant carrier and a separate stroller.  We didnt use the stroller much to justify buying one of the big expensive tavel systems and I didnt like how big and bulky t hey were either.

  • We have an infant seat and a snap and go stroller. Since we both walk/run a lot we need a better stroller than the ones that come with a travel system, so we're looking into jogging strollers when baby outgrows the infant seat.

  • I am getting the travel system for those winter months, especially since I am due in Jan. I also registering/buying a light weight stroller.  You live in LA, you could probably due with out the big travel system.
  • Bjorn, Sling, and stroller. The infant carriers are not made for the short family
  • Me... I think I've decided on the BOB Revolution 12" with the car seat adapter (Graco Snugride seat)

Since you are in NYC, don't you need something with better wheels, that can handle broken sidewalks and snow?

  • We're not. We're getting a stroller, a few wraps/carrier, and in the end DH talked me into an infant carrier, but we won't use it with the stroller. I plan to do more babywearing than strolling.

But the carrier will be good for bringing baby to and from the car without waking him. I totally agree that they are huge and heavy, but since DH & I share the car I can make him haul it. :)

My work colleague was just telling me that she picked up a friend's baby at daycare - he's 11 weeks - and the carrier was SUPER heavy and hard to carry. And she is a very strong woman, I've seen her lift huge things at work.

  • I'll be getting a convertible car seat, regular stroller, and I'll do my best to be a baby wearer if I can. If that doesn't work out, that is what the stroller will be for instead.
  • We're getting the Bugaboo Bee, which comes with a carseat adapter that will work with our Graco carseat for the early months. I also hope to wear the baby as much as possible. Oh, and we got a jogger stroller for jogs.

  • We are getting a smaller system...the Maxi Cosi infant car seat and the stroller...the stroller is like a umbrella stroller but beefer and can attach the car seat to it....much smaller and lighter weight than the travel systems out there (i.e. Gracco, etc.).

You can check them out on Albebaby.com

  • my friend who used a infant carrier said 9 times out of 10, the baby would wake up b/c the thing was so bulk it kept getting in the way of stuff so it would shake him awake
  • We chose a convertible car seat and the Peg Perego Skate stroller. The stroller has a bassinet that is also detachable and we are also purchasing a Baby Bjorn.
  • I would suggest getting an infant carrier, but not necessarily a "system" stroller to match.  I will get a snap-n-go stroller to start and save my money for a better toddler stroller that will be more suitable to my lifestyle.  JMO though.

That's what we are going to do as well.  My sister did the Graco system, and hated how bulky their stroller was.  So we are just going to start with the BOB.

  • We got a Baby Jogger City Mini w/ infant seat adapter and we're going to get a Graco SungRide. This was we have a long term quality stroller that we have the option of using the infant seat with especially in the beginning during the winter months.

This is what we're doing too. I've seen the other travel systems friends have and they get trashed SO fast. The friends that have the BOB and Maclaren strollers look in MUCH better shape after one child. We'll probably get a Maclaren Quest as well later on.
