  • This totally caught me off guard.  It was my job, and I did what I had to do.  I made it home safe and sound, and I am very thankful for that.

I still have quite a few friends that are deployed, or will be in the next few months, and I continue to pray for their safety and for there families.  Please keep them in your thoughts.

  • Yes! Thank you <3

    Always.

I'm an Army brat (born at Ft. Bragg!), so anyone who serves is a hero in my book.  :D  I hope all of your friends return safe and sound.

  • I had no idea. Thank you for your service. You do rock!

No, don't worry about it,  I don't talk about it a whole lot, unless it comes up in the course of conversation.   I was called up right before our wedding in 05.  That is why we celebrate 2 anniversaries.  The one last week was when we got married (officially 9/6/05,) the day before I had to leave, and the second is when we actually had the wedding ceremony when I returned home (1/21/07.)

What branch did you serve in?  What line of work were you in?!  How did I not know this?!  Thank you for your service Flygeah, you are a much stronger woman than I.

    Thank you so much!

Our adopted soldier that we sent packages to made it home. If any of your friends are going to be there a while, I'd love to send a care package. Let me know.

I was in the Army Reserves (I just got my discharge papers a few months ago.) I was supposed to work in telecommunications, but while deployed I actually worked with with counter IED devices.  I worked with a group that developed devices to jam the frequency of the roadside bombs to keep convoys safe.  I think it was one of the best jobs there because I knew what I was doing was helping to keep people safe.

Most definitely!!  How long were you deployed for?

I had a really good friend in college that had been in the army before college ... so he was older than me.  He and his twin brother did their 4 years and finally got out.  2 years after getting out he announces in class with me that he and his brother decided to re-enlist in the reserves to earn some extra tuition money.  I stared at him and said 'You idiot, now some war will break out and you'll have to leave school again!'  I said that, verbatim.  2 days later was 9/11.  2 weeks later he was called up and sent to Iraq.  His brother was killed over there in 2004.

I was deployed for just shy of 14 months.

OMG, That is so sad.   I know quite a few people that did the same thing and got called up.  I was very fortunate that I was called up much later in my enlistment because I seriously could have been deployed 2-3 times.  I signed up in January of 2001 so my entire enlistment I could have been called up at any time.  Seriously was on pins and needles for the last 8 years.

  • Wow, I had absolutely no clue! That is amazing and yes, thank you for all of the sacrifices you made to serve and fight for our country. That's seriously so awesome.

If I remember correctly, they were both MPs, so they were some of the first to leave.

Yes that makes sense.   MPs, and truck drives are the first to leave and deploy the most frequently.

I have a friend that was killed in Feb of 08 by an IED.  It's so sad.  I agree with everyone else, flygeah, your role was so important over there, thank you.

I'm in of sending a package.  Let me know.
