Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Do you EVER lay LO on belly to sleep?

It's the only way DD will stay sleep during the day. At night, she sleeps great, but i think the darkness soothes her. During the day, she's sleeps 15 minutes at the most, before she's up again.

I put her on her belly today for the 1st time, and she's out like a light.

  • If I'm there with her, watching her, I do it but not very often. She sleeps in her swing best!

  • Yes.  DD sleeps better and has excellent head control/lifting ability so I'm comfortable with it.  That said she also sleeps in a sling on me a lot too.

  • Yep, I have a tummy sleeper too, but I use an Angelcare SIDS monitor.  Get one, then you can let her tummy sleep without worrying.  So glad I have one!

  • DS takes naps on his belly every day, then sleeps on his back at night. If I put him on his back during the day he doesn't sleep as well. I'm in the room with him during the day.
  • DD has been a tummy sleeper for a couple of months now. It is the only way she will sleep for longer than an hour.
  • I was just going to post about this! :)

LO doesn't like to nap during the day unless I am wearing him or we are napping together. I put him on his tummy an hour ago and he is still snoozing.... which he barely ever does when napping. I am in the room with him though and keep checking on him to make sure he is okay.

I have to admit though its nice to have some me time :)

  • if they fall asleep during tummy time or something, i'll let them stay that way but i stay next to them for safety sake! my pedi said that now that they can roll, if i find them that way in their crib i don't have to worry because they have enough head/neck strength to move their face around and be able to breathe, but we still swaddle so they don't roll over in their sleep right now.
  • DS thinks that being on his belly = tummy time...hence he cannot sleep that way because he tries to lift his head up

  • I put mine on her belly to nap all the time and she sleeps great. I can see her, so it doesn't scare me as much. Our pedi actually recommended we put her that way at night as well, but I'm too scared to do it yet. She is gassy, so being on her belly helps alleviate that and every little gurgle in her belly doesn't wake her up...
  • I think the medical community has done a pretty good job at scaring parents out of putting babies on their bellies to sleep. ?When I was a child my mom said they all scared parents into putting babies ON their bellies to sleep so they wouldn't choke in their sleep if on their backs. ?Go figure.

That being said, I put my baby on her belly all the time, she sleeps like a log on her belly and I firmly believe it's how she was able to sleep through the night (wakes up around 4/5 am to feed and goes back to sleep) before she was even 2 months old. Don't get me wrong, we watched her like a hawk in the beginning, but she had such good neck control it was never really an issue for us.

  • DS sleeps this way every night! I definetly noticed him sleeping better when i began to put him to sleep this way

  • we started putting my ds on his belly around 4 weeks.  worked wonders- he started sleeping from 830p- 7am at 7 weeks and hasn't woken up since (he is almost 3 years old)- !
  • Call me a bad mom - but she sleeps on her tummy day & night.  She was having gas issues & was able to work a lot of it out in her sleep on her tummy. She has really good head control so it made me feel more comfortable, & I started just during the day to make sure she was okay & then transitioned to night too.

  • Only when I am right there next to him. He LOVES napping on his belly. At night, he sleeps on his back.
  • Only if he's right beside me and I'm awake. Otherwise, no. But he loves being on his back.
