Sick baby advice/what is this?

We've had about a week of allergy/cold symptoms - cough, runny nose, sneezing, not acting like herself. Last night, she had no appetite at dinner, went to bed and woke up coughing, vomited twice from what seemed like coughing or drainage and at that point had a low fever 99.5-100.5. Fever was still there this morning, but she was acting about how she has all week. Still playing and stuff, but acting a little wimpy. Doc says I can bring her in to check for ear infection or wait it out because colds can last up to 10 days.

DD has only vomited once in her life. Do they really vomit from just a cold? My gut says take her in to be safe. Anyone else had something similar?

ETA: Would just a cold include fever?

  • It does kind of sound like a cold, and DS has thrown up multiple times from gagging on drainage.

    It happens!

  • Sounds like a cold and the vomiting could be from the drainage/mucous, like you said. DS has had the same symptoms for over 10 days. I can't tell if it's teething or a cold. His nose is running clear, but he doesn't seem to feel well.?
  • Ah yes this sounds very familiar to what my son is going through now. He has been sick all this week and part of last week with fever, congestion, sneezing, coughing, vomiting because of the mucus, and no appetite. Took him in on Wednesday for the doctor to tell me he has no ear infection but just a cold and she prescribed an antibitotic for him. I too wish my child would be back to his self again. GL with your little one.
  • Joseph has gotten like that from teething, too. He's even puked from all the excess drool.
  • DD has had a cold make her puke twice. She just couldn't handle the amount of drainage that was going on. She's sick now too and I am as well. No puking yet and she's muddling her way through it without a fever so no missed work for me.

  • I could've written this exact post. K threw up A LOT last night, so we decided to just go ahead and take her to the doctor today. She's been on and off with the same symptoms your LO has since last monday.

I hope he feels better soon.
